| Make no mistakes about it. I know what I look like to others. Young, government-aided, pregnant mom. They see Lucy on my hip, and they see a mistake. I mean, why else would someone have a child so young, right? They couldn’t be more wrong. I’m too busy most days between parenting, work, and finishing up my last year of nursing school to let their judging gaze tear me down until he moves in the vacant house next to the apartments I live in.
His cold, blunt observation of us doesn’t differ from any other stranger. He doesn’t know me, but he’s already painting a picture of who he thinks I am in his mind. He judges my very round belly, Lucy’s inability to leave him alone, the bags under my eyes, and the fact that I could not care less what I look like anymore. He’s a rude guy. Stays that way for months too. Then something happens, I’m not even sure what. Judgmental Guy decides Lucy and me — as well as baby Eli — are worth his friendship. Turns out, Judgmental Guy isn’t too mean — okay, he kind of still is. But he graduates to Elijah. I build an unlikely friendship with him which deems it necessary for him to start smiling around me and my kids. I’m wrong again. Elijah isn’t rude. He’s terrifying. His strange acts of kindness are unraveling me. Elijah is only my friend. Right? Oh, fudge. I think I’m wrong. Again. |

| When we were eleven, Oliver Ford Pemberton dared me to jump off a barn roof. He said you couldn’t break a leg from a 12-foot-jump. He lied. (You can also break a collarbone, which served him right as far as I was concerned.) I wish I could say it was the last dare I ever took from him, the last bet I ever made with him, the last time I ever trusted Oliver Ford Pemberton. But it wasn’t. Because he had the nerve to grow up gorgeous, charming, and sexy. And as we got older, the dares only got dirtier—and the betting stakes higher—until finally, he left me in pieces. I swore I’d never talk to him again. But twenty years after I took that flying leap, he’s back in my life, daring me to risk everything for him: my job, my self-worth, and my heart. How many chances does love deserve? |

| I love books by Melanie Harlow, so it was a no brainer that I would love to review Undeniable when offered.
I loved Oliver and Chloe – they were developed so deeply that it was easy to see them as children together and I loved them. The story was perfect and as always the writing was flawless Yet – may I say that I wonder about something? I loved the characters as friends and I could see them in the changes from friendship to something more. But there I started to wonder. I have to be careful now how to phrase this because of spoilers but – they somehow never seemed to be on the same page when it came to their feelings for each other – but somehow they actually always were and despite talking they never actually talked honestly. And somehow amongst their dares he left her broken – but the actual why escaped me while reading – I have a faint idea but that felt like it was not strong enough honestly. At least not strong enough for the way it was mentioned in the Blurb. But the thing that somehow bugs me is that that during all of their banter I could not see them progressing towards something somehow. Their grown up persona was like their growing up persona repeating the same things up until almost the end. Don’t get me wrong I liked the story yet I could not connect with the character the way I usually do with this author and it felt strange to me. But this might be only my very personal issue and not the story. The book did what it was supposed to – it entertained me well on a rainy Sunday and I can recommend it to others for the same purpose even if I could not feel the characters like I usually do therefore this book is “only” a 4 Star read.

| Remember us…when I can’t.
Thea Hughes has five minutes to live. A car accident stole her parents and left her with the second-worst documented case of amnesia in the world. She now has only minutes of experiences, of consciousness, of life…before her memory is wiped clean. The once effervescent artist with a promising future is reduced to scribbling with pens and paper, living an empty, quiet life, three hundred seconds at a time. Jim Whelan is on autopilot. A foster kid shuffled around the system since birth, he’s lived his entire life without knowing love…and it’s taken its toll—until he learned to fight back, carry his armor, and keep his head down. Working as an orderly in the Blue Ridge Sanitarium, deep in Virginia countryside, Jim looked up…and found Thea. When Thea has the chance to break free of her five-minute prison with a risky, experimental surgery, it could lead them both to an epic love they never thought possible… or one that could require the ultimate sacrifice. *** A Five-Minute life contains subject matter that might be sensitive to some readers. |

| Going into the first pages of A Five-Minute Life by Emma Scott I was skeptical knowing that this could go either way. Could there be something like a HEA with a blurb like that. After reading “Me before you” I tend to stay away from plots that have HEARTBREAK written all over them – especially reading an advance copy.
But something drew me to it and I could not resist. And what a heartbreaking yet beautiful story it was. And it was certainly not following the general rules – I almost feel sorry that I cannot reveal the deeper meaning of that line because of spoilers. But let’s say up to a certain point I thought I knew what was going to happen and it almost killed me. I am not sure what I should tell you about the story as I keep thinking it would be best if the reader knew nothing more than what the actual blurb is giving him. The characters were beautiful and they could not have been more perfect – well maybe except Thea’s sister – I could have done without her seriously … but the plot needed her character unfortunately #sigh…. One thought remained with me … I would have loved to see one of the word chain pictures … I am pretty sure it would have made the best of all possible covers for this book. It may not be the lighthearted summer read you are looking for at this time of year but it will be worth it so please if the blurb appeals to you READ IT
