Colleen Hoover Q&A

 

A Q&A is always a great possibility to ask an author the questions you always wanted an answer for.  This is why I am very happy about the live Q&A Colleen had on August 13th. It was about one hour long, so I won’t type everything down she said, but with this post I try to summarize the hour with one of our favorite authors to give you an idea about what she had to say!)
 
1)Asked about the up-coming movie “Ugly Love”, based on her book: She knows as much as we know which means the pre-production is still in progress! Colleen also mentioned that the auditions to find Tate just started.
 
2)How does Colleen handle her curls?
The best way to deal with them is to wrap a shirt around the wet hair and sleep with it, so it gets pretty curly. (Something I probably should try out as well 😀 ).
 
3)A very important answer for those who live on the Philipines: she will go there next month! So watch out and take your chance if you should be nearby!4) What inspired Colleen to start writing?
Colleen wrote her first story when she was five(called “Mystery Bob”), so this shows that she was always interested in writing.5) About Never Never 3:  Because of contracts she has to full-fill, it will be published after Colleen published “November 9” for which she has to do promotion.6) About crying during writing a book:
She isn’t an emotional person, so the one time she remembers crying was while she wrote “Ugly Love”. She also isn’t very romantic which is why she would laugh if her husband ever should say the things her character say in the books.

7) What Colleen is doing on release day: most times she is just sitting in front of her computer, on November 9 she would like to go to the concert she mentioned in the book.

8) What are Colleen’s favourite books?
It’s hard to say, even can be compared with choosing your favourite child. So normally the books she just finished are the ones she likes the most. 

 
9) They changed the formula of Diet Pepsi(everyone who followed Colleen for at least at bit knows why this is so important to mention for her 😀 ).
 
10) Does she miss her old job?
She worked as a social worker and later on also as a teacher(which she was terrible at-because of the mising organisation skills). She also mentioned that her old co-workers are the reason she finished “Slammed” which she wrote during that time.
So from time to time she is “stealing them” to help her organize everything she has to do.11) About her writing rituals:  she needs three solid days to just write without interruption, so she can write around 16 hours every day which she needs to stay part of the story.12) She doesn’t dream about her characters.!3) When “November 9” will be published, there also will be a new App called “Crave” which is going to change the way people experience books. (Everyone who downloads the app will also have early access to the book, and extra content as well).

15) What book took her the longest to write: “Maybe Someday”, about a year

16) About seeing her books in the shop: it’s awesome, but she also thinks about all these talented authors who haven’t got the same chance.

EVENT : Sylvia Day in Cologne 2014

One of our Blog Members had the chance to meet Sylvia Day at a Bookstore in Cologne / Germany in May 2014 when she was there for an author reading.
Lucky for us it was not a large crowded convention but a rather intimate gathering so it was easy to ask questions and even get photos and videos.
We asked before taking the pictures and videos and she was perfectly fine with us taking them so we would like to share them here with you. 
We thought it was very nice of her to offer even personal pictures with her. Yes you are reading correctly SHE offered before anybody had the chance to even ask.
AND for some persons – that did not expect this and did not bring a camera – she even came found somebody else to take a picture for them and promised to have it posted on Facebook and Twitter for them so they could get them. Well I would say that Sylvia Day cares very much about her fans and she is a really really nice Person herself. At first the people were rather reluctant with asking questions but after a warm up time ther was a very pleasant discussion going on.
She was very openly taking about her Crossfire novells and the fact that there is a planning of making a Crossfire tv series.
She even offered to sign 3 books for each person so you were able to bring presents for your friends too. It was adorable how she requested to tell her which book was your personal and whos names belonged to your friend. Her reason was simple … the persons present at that meeting got a different more personal dedication than those who only got the books as a present.
This was very important for her.
In Total this was a very awsome evening

EVENT : Kreuzberg Slam (Poetry Slam)

After reading the Slammed series by Colleen Hoover, I always wanted to take part in a Poetry slam.So, when a friend told me about this one, of course I joined her.

The Kreuzberg Slam is a Poetry Slam which takes part monthly in a Club called Lido in Kreuzberg (part of Berlin). 

 
Yesterday, there were 9 participants who were supposed to present their self-written pieces of literary in not more than 5 minutes without using anything exept of their mime and gestures. 

The 9 Slamers were put in groups of 3 – the one of each group who got the loudest applause was supposed to perform again in the big final.The atmosphere was awesome as there was only the stage, one microphone, the participants and lots and lots of people in the audience. Actually, there were so many people that they even had to sit on stage surrounding the person performing. 

 
Seeing people who you would never  expect to create such beautiful pieces of literary and performing them on stage – that’s something which made the experience even better as the participants were really different.Not only they, also the texts they presented containing mostly political topics, German entertainment shows/acts like Germany’s next Topmodel or Helene Fischer or the problems during youth/childhood. Did I mention the one including Shades of Grey?
See, very big variation of topics ;)Basically, there are no rules or things you have to observe while writing or performing so, some of them even sang the whole poem.I hope, that more people will use this possibility to enjoy an evening for 5€ including awesome performances,  a lot of fun and lots of laughter which even made my stomach hurt.

Luckily, Poetry Slam gets more and more famous, so that more people will be able to take part init.

Perhaps even as a participant…

EVENT : Leipziger Buchmesse 2015

As avid readers like we are, visiting book conventions is something that comes close to being in paradise. On Saturday, March 14th 2015, a friend, her father and I drove together from Berlin to Leipzig with their car. Sounds like a simple plan, right?
This simple plan got destroyed when everything went wrong what could have gone wrong. Not only did I wake up 20 minutes before they wanted to pick me up which was more than one hour too late, also we did have a much bigger problem: an engine damage which forced us to wait more than 1h while directly standing on the autobahn.
 
Our plan to arrive at 10 am obviously couldn’t work anymore. Actually it took us 6 more hours to get to the convention. BUT we arrived, even if this meant that we only had two hours to go.
The Leipziger Buchmesse is after the Frankfurter Buchmesse the second biggest book convention in Germany. BIG with capital letters….!
Allocated to 5 enormous halls, there was every possible (German) publisher company reprensented – unknown, very famous, very “special” ones,….
 
So because we knew that we wouldn’t be able to go through all the halls, we decided to just walk a little bit faster to see which one are the more interesting one (my heart ached, because it felt like reaching for something, but at the end not getting what you want).
 
There were only German publishers which is for us as we mainly read English books a little bit disappointing, but the fact that we found English books now also on the selling shelves in Germany made us grinning all over our faces.
 
For me especially one autor was important, so the dtv corner including at least 4 of Colleen Hoover’s German book versions was my personal highlight. Even if she didn’t attend the convention like it was planned, being surrounded by her books felt like being home. Besides, it’s always interesting to find books by new, perhaps even totally unknown, authors. If there would have been more time, I probably would have hide myself anywhere and would have never come out again. But because of what happened before, I just was able to take a look at some interesting series or stand-alone novels which now are part of the ever-growing to read -list.
 
The best thing about such an event is the fact that everybody feels the same and understands why you stand in front of book shelves at least1h(I know, that’s a lie-one hour is never enough) instead of just buying books on the internet. Or why touching the books you have read feels like saying thank you for existing.
 
I would recommend everybody to visit such a book convention if possible, but then without arriving 2 hours before it close as you need at least 4 h to walk through all the halls without stressing yourself.
And taking money with you is also very important as there is always the possibility to buy books which will scream “Come to Mami”  all the time.
