Blurb : Clara One phone call was all it took. A voice on the answering machine, a man oblivious to what calling me would do, uprooted my entire existence. He revived old hurts, dug up past nightmares. He destroyed everything I’d built for myself. But I found bliss through Grey, in Grey. Grey I had no idea that making a simple phone call, one that devastated me because of the reasons behind it, would make me question my truths, my friendships, everything I held dear in my little town. Calling her was the best and worst decision I’d ever made, but it brought her to me, to Bliss. And I could never take that back. Finding Bliss is a story about redemption, love, and finding true, irrevocable bliss. It’s about new beginnings and the heights attainable.
Review :Finding Bliss by Cassie Strickland really puts me between a Rock and a Hard Place. After reading the Blurb I was so excited when I was offered to read an Advance copy for reviewing purposes. And I was not disappointed…. (for the first 60% of the book)
There was mystery – a secret – a hot guy and a woman I could easy relate to. The writing was solid and story was good. And if that book had ended with what the reader knew around that time – my vote would have been a solid 4 stars. Well … but then the last 40% “happened” and the whole story became “abstract” to phrase it carefully.
For me personally it felt as if the author placed to many ideas in one story. Those ideas could have easily been used for another book. I would have to go too far into the spoilers to explain but let me try to describe what I mean by saying.
A normal story has the meeting of the leading characters – some background happening – mostly leading to a big BANG – and in cases of a HEA the “getting finally together” . But in case of this story the reader got the first big BANG followed by another, another and another and somewhere along the line I found myself thinking “really?”
Surly some story’s can work also with several BANG’s as long as the fit together – but these where just to many … I am sure there are readers that will adore this book as it is well written but for me the whole storyline was only good until around 60% because this kind of plot could not work with all those “things” happening afterwards …
Still I am looking forward to read another book of this author as I am sure I will enjoy her writing and given another plot surely even the full book.
