Blurb : A GIRL TRYING TO LEAVE HER PAST BEHIND I was a normal teenager who loved music and dancing, until the day I was attacked in my favorite record store. A few years later when my mom succumbed to depression and took her own life, I couldn’t stay in my hometown with all the memories and the curious stares. I decided to get in my car and just go – except my car decided it was done going outside a tiny place called Evergreen Grove. That’s where I found Jake. Or I guess Jake found me.
A GUY WHO CAN’T LET HIS GO For the last eight years, all I can think about is the day I ended another man’s life. Then I manage to save Cassie’s, and I feel like maybe I’ve got some kind of second chance. To do what I couldn’t before, or maybe even for something bigger. Something like love. If only I could feel like I deserve her… At the Stars is a sweet, contemporary new adult romance. It’s a story of lost hope, new beginnings, and found love.
Review : With “At the Stars” as a reader you find yourself in a story including two main characters which both had a horrible past. You get details in little pieces, mostly shown throughout the interactions and thoughts of the characters. The point of view changes almost after ever chapter, sometimes even within a chapter, which I really like. It makes reading more interesting as we don’t only get to know what Cassie bears in her mind, also we get to know about Jake who can’t really deal with his past. In the beginning you find the female character dancing on the streets which made me think “Oh great, she definetly is going to be a very strange and different character!”. Actually I ecpected her to be a little bit more “crazy” as she is described as the crazy girl who does things like that. Both protagonists have lots of interesting and special characteristics and ways of thinking. Sometimes I wished it would be more visible to the reader as it is a really good basis which could have changed my rating to a higher level of stars. I loved the interactions between them! The book begins pretty fast as you are confronted with a lot of different situations, information and feelings which gets a little bit lost in the middle of the book. During this time I hoped the whole time for a change of plot as I had the feeling that there is something, I can already imagine it, but it’s not really there(it was like this big pink elefant standing in the room). So in the middle, the interaction between them kept this book alive (in my opinion).
Still, I was happy to read the book until the end as I would have missed some really well written scenes which show a great writing style.
I actually would like to read again a book written by Elisabeth Staab.
