I awaken in a laboratory. I donât know who I am. Iâm inexplicably drawn to the doctor who cares for me. She tells me Iâve been altered, that Iâm stronger and faster, that Iâll be a key component in a war between corporations. She says I volunteered for this. She says I volunteered to be transformed, but I have no way of knowing if what she says is true. Something isnât right. My memories have been taken, wiped clean, but dreams begin to slip into my conscious mind. I canât let anyone know when that happens, or theyâll remove my memories again. Somewhere inside of me, I know I need to remember something important. Iâm fighting a war I donât understand, and the one woman I rely on canât be trusted.
Review :
After reading âTakedown Teagueâ â I was directly drawn to Shay Savageâs new Book âSpecimenâ. It was out of question for me that I was going to like her writing style. Otherwise I would not have chosen the book.
As far as the content / plotline goes â that was another âhell-yesâ factor for me â as a huge fan of âLaurann Dohners â New Species seriesâ I had high expectations for this plot.
The only ânon-sellerâ for me was the slight Dystopian setting that reminded me sometimes a little of âDivergentâ â and to be totally honest â the author could have used almost all kinds of settings for the main plot to work. So I mainly blocked that dystopian part out and concentrated on the plot. Interesting enough this is the kind of book where something like this actually works.
I am not sure how to describe the plotline without giving away any spoiler. Letâs say it was
â¦.Surprising ?
And it leaves me with questions that the author tried to âanswerâ with her final words â but I am not satisfied ⦠(yes this is one of the moments where my own NO spoiler rule kind of annoys me)
So I guess I will better leave it at : Fans of Laurann Dohners âNew Speciesâ will love this book (basically <- yes this is because of my issue) and fans of Shay Savage will love her book anyway.
Note to the author :
I am not satisfied with your answer to the question at the end of the book ⦠I hope I will be one of MANY readers that is not willing to accept âthingsâ.
So please reconsider !
