I awaken in a laboratory. I don’t know who I am. I’m inexplicably drawn to the doctor who cares for me. She tells me I’ve been altered, that I’m stronger and faster, that I’ll be a key component in a war between corporations. She says I volunteered for this. She says I volunteered to be transformed, but I have no way of knowing if what she says is true. Something isn’t right. My memories have been taken, wiped clean, but dreams begin to slip into my conscious mind. I can’t let anyone know when that happens, or they’ll remove my memories again. Somewhere inside of me, I know I need to remember something important. I’m fighting a war I don’t understand, and the one woman I rely on can’t be trusted.

After reading “Takedown Teague” – I was directly drawn to Shay Savage’s new Book “Specimen”. It was out of question for me that I was going to like her writing style. Otherwise I would not have chosen the book.

As far as the content / plotline goes – that was another “hell-yes” factor for me – as a huge fan of “Laurann Dohners – New Species series” I had high expectations for this plot.

The only “non-seller” for me was the slight Dystopian setting that reminded me sometimes a little of “Divergent” – and to be totally honest – the author could have used almost all kinds of settings for the main plot to work. So I mainly blocked that dystopian part out and concentrated on the plot. Interesting enough this is the kind of book where something like this actually works.

I am not sure how to describe the plotline without giving away any spoiler. Let’s say it was

….Surprising ?

And it leaves me with questions that the author tried to “answer” with her final words – but I am not satisfied … (yes this is one of the moments where my own NO spoiler rule kind of annoys me)

So I guess I will better leave it at : Fans of Laurann Dohners “New Species” will love this book (basically <- yes this is because of my issue) and fans of Shay Savage will love her book anyway.

Note to the author :

I am not satisfied with your answer to the question at the end of the book … I hope I will be one of MANY readers that is not willing to accept “things”.

So please reconsider !
