Some games are hotter off the ice… Sofia Phillips feels cursed. Her father cheated on her mother, her boyfriend cheated on her―she’s done with dating. A summer work-exchange program in Finland is the perfect escape. But instead of gaining experience as an athletic trainer, she’s cleaning toilets. Awesome. The trip is a disaster, and even better, she meets Kyle Bennett. In the sauna. Naked. Sexy hockey player Kyle was the star right wing for an NHL team. But after an accident killed his wife and left him injured, Kyle has appreciated the “therapeutic” benefits of booze and puck bunnies. Now in Finland for the summer, he’s coaching in an elite hockey-training camp for teens. When Sofia’s grandmother decides to set her up with a nice Finnish man, Sofia recruits Kyle as her make-believe boyfriend. Neither expects their first kiss to sizzle. And neither expects, while stranded on an island during a storm, to have a scorching night of passion. But as their charade, and then their attraction, develops into something deeper, the past comes back, threatening to destroy them. They must decide if their feelings for each other are strong enough to survive―or it will be game over.

Review :

ok – now I have to face the music … you know that feeling when someone asks you to read a book that is about a genre you either know nothing about? Or you have only read like one book about it before that you did NOT like ? … and I mean REALLY TOTALLY NOT LIKE??…

In my case I knew I liked the author before when I read another book from her but well still was still doubting about the genre (yeah it was THAT bad with that other book) Than you think – OK – lets take a look at the Blurb – because you really REALLY liked that other book she wrote.
So now you know how I came to read ”Heat it Up” by Stina Lindenblatt. I actually stepped from a Rockstar novel into a hockey novel and well what should I say …. I really whished THIS would have been my first Hockey Novel and (input swearword <- to keep it amazonfriendly) this author knows how to tell wrap her readers around her pen.
Yes I admit I had a certain twist figured out quite early in the story – but that did nothing to dim the reading pleasure. I need my leading male characters as bad boy with soft sides ( or redeemed) or as wounded / scarred hero . And I believe this author agrees with me on that.
The characters are well developed and likable (or unlikable #laughing – depending on their role). – and yeah I think those glasses were a detail that made Kyle even more cute. The setting was refreshing but fitting the story.
In addition, I had to bring my OCD under control because I was so tempted to google certain stuff. I am not the kind of reviewer to point out punctuation or gramma but more the detail and continuity freak. So you might have found me online googling foreign languages if they are translated or if certain places and landmarks really exist … (#eye roll yes naturally only when reading contemporary novels)
In case you wonder why the book did not get 5 stars ?! Well this last star is a very precious one for me – that will only be given away when there were tears involved on my side during reading – good ones or bad ones.
But not every novel needs tears to be great so not that many books get 5 stars with me.
I am sure if the blurb sounds appealing to you that you will totally enjoy the writing style of this author …
