SLOE SCREW by Nazarea Andrews

A Standalone Contemporary Romance

(River Street Bar series, #3)

Blurb:

Vivian Fitzpatrick is a big dreams girl stuck in a small town.

She likes her job, and she adores her friends, but there’s a tiny part of her that still wants adventure. Wants all the unfulfilled dreams to come true. She still wants to base jump and skydive and do everything her ex-boyfriend said she was too chicken-shit to do.

Which is probably how she ends up moonlighting for a phone sex line.

Matteo Soto is just trying to figure out how to live again.

A bomb in Iraq left half his unit dead, and Matteo broken. He puts on a good act–the rookie at RCPD, taking care of his dead best friend’s family. But it feels too much like going through the motions, too much like marking time.

He needs a reason to get up in the morning.

She needs to feel alive.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Nazarea Andrews (N to almost everyone) is an avid reader and tends to write the stories she wants to read. Which means she writes everything from zombies and dystopia to contemporary love stories.

When not writing, she can most often be found driving her kids to practice and burning dinner while she reads, or binge watching TV shows on Netflix. N loves chocolate, wine, and coffee almost as much as she loves books, but not quite as much as she loves her kids.

N is a self-professed geek and enjoys spending her spare time lost in her favorite fandoms and can often be found babbling about them on social media.

She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, spoiled cat and overgrown dog. She is the author of World Without End series, Neverland Found, Edge of the Falls, and The University of Branton Series. Stop by her twitter (@NazareaAndrews) and tell her what fantastic book she should read next.

4 RedQueen & Blazetrailer Stars.

There is a certain charm when it comes to River Bay City and its residents. To be honest though I can’t pinpoint why. It’s a combination of several things. How they look after their own. How there is balance with the overall story the angst involved and the feels as well.

Characters & Chemistry.

Vivi Fitzpatrick is a dispatcher for the RCPD and she is happy with her life or, so she thought. She gave up her once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Julliard. For what? So, her boyfriend of 8 years can up and leave for his once in a lifetime opportunity by taking a job in Tokyo.

I really liked Vivi although there were times when I wanted to shake some sense into her. She is loyal, sassy and has an unknown strength.

Matteo Sato former military suffers from PTSD. Once back he has nothing tying to Texas, so he moves to River City to be near his best friend’s family who died. But he hasn’t quite figured out if it is out of obligation or because he wants to.

I adore Matteo. He has the whole tortured soul thing going on. But on the surface, it all seems good. He also is loyal, absolutely lickable with a gooey center and has the patience of a saint.

As soon as these two met sparks flew. But they don’t act on their attraction straight away. Lately I have been fed up with sex scenes. Shocker I know. But the author did a great job of build up for these two. What starts out as friends with benefits changes as the lines begin to blur. Confusion arises but neither of them want to talk about it until the hurt comes.

Writing, Plot & Pace.

Okay so this is only the third book that I have read by Ms. Andrews, but I dig her writing style. It flows well and is engaging as well as delivering a fantastic and unique story. I really do need to check out more by this author.

The plot of this might be a bit iffy for some and at the beginning it was for me as well. There were one or two times where I really was contemplating whether or not to continue and after that I just went with it. Vivi gets dumped by her boyfriend because she is considered to be boring during college she hooked up to Redlight Connect and after Jax left her she goes back as RedQueen. She has become close to one of her clients Blazetrailer and along the way somehow more developed.

Vivi had such self-destructive behavior it was hard to stomach cause honestly it was like reading about my former self. Times I’d rather not be reminded of. Too much booze and picking up ONS. But at least there is role reversal here.

Matteo has had a tough time He also has a lot of things that he is fighting against. Emotions run strong with these two. He also has a way of coping and letting steam off.

Verdict.

A HFN and let’s face it they are kind of sucky. I would like to have seen more of Matteo and Vivi at the end. That little snippet of an epilogue just wasn’t enough for me.

After 3 books I can still say that Taite drives me crazy, she is still obnoxious but, in a way, I also love her. But there were also times where I thought that everyone in their circle of friends was very open with one another.

I’d read the book peeps, hell the series. Has my stamp approval.
