How I love being disappointed by a favourite author of mine.
I shouldn’t have requested it and gone with my gut but noooooooo
Good thing this was the last in the series because I think this is the worst book in the series. IMO an end of a series should always try to go out with a bang and not a fizzle. This my friends is a fizzle.
The characters.
Kayla former double spy is trying to live a normal life. She decides to take on one more mission for the CIA. Be the submissive and bodyguard for Hollywood Heartthrob for Joshua Hunt. I’ve liked Kayla in every book as a secondary character but here I don’t what it was. I think she should have stayed a secondary character.
Joshua Hunt, Hollywood star, broken man has many a stalker and his security has to have been uped but he is also looking for a sub a business transaction. I have no real words to describe the twit.
The Chemistry.
I didn’t feel the chemistry between the two. They also got off to a rocky start at the beginning. To be honest I didn’t see any improvement. Josh is a right tool. He accuses Kay of being a whore and she just takes it. I don’t get it. He isn’t a man whore though. All very meh especially the BDSM of the book. They develop deep feelings for one another and the L word comes into play. Nope sorry don’t believe it. Especially after no scenes of their interaction that can prove that the feelings are real.
The Plot
At the 64% mark.
Ms. Blake has flawless writing she knows how to suck you into a story here but all aspects of the storytelling just fell short for me.
Now I love the spy shit but there was too much going on. Josh’s past, the Mexican Cartel, the CIA after the Lost Boys. One or two would have been okay but I felt as if I was being pulled in so many directions that I patience was being tested. In the end Kay and the CIA have an ulterior motive and she was lying even by omission it was all based on a lie, the same with book one really but the roles were reversed.
The Conclusion.
It didn’t feel like a conclusion to the series but maybe it was the bridge over to the series of The Lost Boys. I miss the Tags in all of this. It’s not the same without Sanctum and or The Garden. I so wanted to go back to the former years. It felt ridiculous and absurd. I really don’t know what LB was trying to create here and it truly pains me to say this because I am a huge fan. But I am just so disappointed. I’m sure this will as usual be a hit for all of you. So take my review with a pinch of salt.
