The Thief by Kate McCarthy
Release Date: April 4th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance
After years of working in the family business, Arcadia “Ace” Jones has become a renowned car thief. Trained from a tender age, it’s the only life she’s ever known. Longing for a future that doesn’t hold the promise of prison, she makes the decision to go straight and earn an honest living.
But the Marchetti Organisation won’t accept her retirement, forcing her to complete a job so big it’s almost impossible. She’s on a tight deadline but an irritating biker dude keeps thwarting her attempts to deliver.
Kelly Daniels likes to tinker with bikes and cars. He’s content with operating the car restoration business he owns alongside his partners, until an annoying little thief manages to steal a Dodge Charger right out from under his nose.
He gets pulled into her treacherous scheme and they form an unlikely bond. When it becomes a race against the clock to pull off the heist of the century or end up behind bars, Ace and Kelly realise they have more to lose than their freedom—each other.

Excerpt:
My breath catches. This was only supposed to be about wild sex with a hot, irresistible man. I should have known. The moment he walked inside Fix I knew he was a paradox. A puzzle, one I played with, slowly fitting all the broken pieces together until the whole picture now sits before me, a picture so beautiful it steals my breath.
“Kelly.” He watches me, his face close to mine. “You were never meant to get involved. It’s not your fight.”
He draws back like I’ve slapped him the face.
I fumble for his hand, grabbing it before he can withdraw any further. “It’s always been my fight. I don’t have friends. I don’t have boyfriends. I don’t sleep around. I’ve always kept people at arms-length because I don’t live a life where I can answer the kinds of questions they ask of me. Then you came along and I thought maybe this once it would be nice, real fucking nice to pretend I could have something beautiful for myself. Only you weren’t what I expected. You pissed me off. You made me laugh and you made me ache, and you made me want you so damn much. You did all that and now I can’t imagine how I lived a life without you in it. You give so much of yourself without even realising it. Even now you’re taking my fight and making it your own, and I hate myself for being so selfish and letting you.”

5+++++ ‘Chunks & Donkey’ Stars
The Thief is original, with nail biting, on the edge of seat, fast paced and action-packed goodness that you won’t want to put it down. All in all, it is brilliant. I see Kate McCarthy becoming one of my favorite authors if any of her other books are like this one.
The Characters.
Arcadia ‘Ace’ Jones is one of the best in the business. She comes from a heritage of car fanatics and thieves. After so many years living the high and the adrenaline and especially what happened to her brother she wants out. Getting out isn’t that easy though.
I love Ace, I have a major girl crush on her and seriously she is one of the best heroines I have ever got to meet. She is strong, sassy, does what’s right. Has her head screwed on yet has kept her soft heart, her loyalty is one of kind and she loves unconditionally.
Kelly Daniels is a Sentinel and has been since the age of 15. He loves his cars, he loves to tinker, and he loves his club. He would lay down his life for those who are in his inner circle.
I love Kelly just as much as I love Ace. He is one strong alpha with such an high level of overprotectiveness that normally I would say it is too much but here? Nope, not at all. He is loyal and a bit of a softie. I love him flaws and all.
The characters are three dimensional and have a depth to them that I haven’t experienced in a long time. They work together. They are similar but not quite. Ace has a light that shines that keeps Kelly’s demons at bay. Kelly is Ace’s rock.
Let’s turn to the secondary characters. Ellington Echo Reid is a prodigy with bubble gum hair. Fingers that work magic as a hacker security specialist. She is Ace’s partner in crime and yes had to bend the sistas code, but it was for Ace’s own good. Nothing too bad.
The Fox brothers oh lord I need them to have books like now. I know Luke is getting a book with Murphy/Hayden. Please hurry up.
These characters add so much more depth to the book.
The Chemistry.
From the first time that they met they had chemistry on all levels. Emotionally they were on the same wavelength and sexually no need to even mention that. They were scorching. I love how their interactions started off and although they were drawn to one another they both knew that what was between them is special. Even though there were some pesky reasons standing between them.
Their interactions flowed well be it that they were having a lark, or it went over to something serious. Or when it was time to get down and dirty.
The Writing & Plot.
The beginning of the book absolutely gutted me. The author doesn’t hold back she gets down to the nitty gritty and I was shocked, sad and amazed by the prologue. Ms. McCarthy’s writing is top notch. She knows how to lay the foundation for an epic story. I personally think that I got an epic story.
From Ace boosting cars to Kelly helping her. The background and in-depth story that happened between Kelly and Casey, his estranged brother where Kelly couldn’t quite let that grudge go. Or with Ace and Mason and the differences that they had. But family is family and you go through thick or thin. Boosting 12 cars in 12 weeks is no easy feat especially when Kelly gets involved. Ace’s nine lives are about to end. There is only so much luck you can have.
I was captivated with the story, it’s riveting. You just didn’t know what was going to happen next. Which for me personally is always refreshing.
The Verdict.
I am so glad that I took a chance with this author. It is everything I want in a book. I just need to back track and read the series as they are somewhat interconnected.
Racer Jones’s pray this nearly made me pee my pants
“As I lay rubber down the street, I pray for traction I can keep, but I spin and begin to slide, please dear God protect my ride.”
And last but not least I want the paperback.
