|I’m Not in the Band|
|June 12th 2017|
I like Kassidy Milton. There, I said it. She’s funny, beautiful—even though she doesn’t know it—and my favorite kind of weird. But I can’t tell if she’s into me or just trying to get close to me for a chance with my famous twin brother instead. I mean, it has to be me. I am the better-looking one. But Kassidy has some demons, and she’s not good at letting people in. That happens when you’ve been hurt by someone close to you. I can relate. Trust is a funny thing; it’s hard to gain but easy to lose. I might just learn that the hard way.
Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book includes a snarky heroine, a swoon-worthy hero, crazy best friends, your favorite music, and lots of feels.
When I started reading I’m Not in the Band by Amber Garza I thought this is just another teenage Rockstar novel. And actually that is just what this book is NOT. Because we are not reading about the famous Rockstar that meets a girl.
No .. we are reading the story of this brother and his struggle with just the fact that his brother is famous. It is about growing up and finding yourself. This becomes even more clear when we take a look at the female lead.
Her past has shaped her into something that she is not willing to be anymore. And while she struggles to break free from what holds her (and yes I am cryptic to keep it spoilerfree) she stumbles across this really cute guy that also second guesses everything about every new person he meets.
You can prepare yourself for acts of jealousy, prejudice, hurt and betrayal – and amongst all of this the tiny blossom of friendship and maybe more ? that struggles to survive with everything pointing in the opposite direction.
This book is a lesson on when to trust your instincts and when to follow your heart even if you are at a risk of getting hurt.
Also the writing style of this book is not only fresh but also kind of unique. As it is the first book that is really in great parts written like conversations are really held today (yeah – I know cryptic much – but you will be surprised – I know I was … )
It is not a 5 star read because I did not find myself crying a river or laughing out loud but it is a solid 4 stars and I am pretty sure it will find many lovers in this genre – therefore enjoy….
