Goodreads review

She’s on the run.Yulia Tzakova’s freedom comes at a heavy price. Her former captor dominates her dreams, and survival consumes her waking moments. She may have escaped, but she’s far from safe.

In the shadowy world of spies and betrayal, nothing is what it seems.

He’s obsessed with getting her back.

Lucas Kent’s rage knows no bounds. The danger of his job occupies his days, but hunting down Yulia is what he lives for. When he finds her, she’ll never escape again.

He’ll do whatever it takes to keep her.

4.5 Yuila & Lucas stars.

First & foremost this CANNOT be read as a standalone. And it took me ages to write this review. It most likely won’t do the book justice but you gotta try, right?

This is conclusion to Yulia & Lucas’s story. There are some books that must be savored this is one of them. Alas I tried to here but I couldn’t I gobbled it up. I loved nearly every single moment of it.

Did I get the closure to this series that I wanted? Yes & No.

I also had a goofy smile on my face. Try telling people on the tram that you’re not a psychopath.

From the first sentence to the last sentence I was hooked.

“Say that again?” I grip the phone tighter, nearly crushing it as my disbelief morphs into burning fury. “What the fuck do you mean she escaped?”

As you can gather Yulia escapes she is desperate to get back to the Ukraine and to her brother. Through the separation she realizes how attached she has become to her jailor no matter how wrong it feels. Her heart aches for him. She doesn’t understand why though.

I’m in love with a man who has every reason to despise me-a man who scares me to my very soul.

I still find Yulia to be one of my favorite heroines of all time. She is still strong although she develops throughout the book she stays strong but still changes in defined ways. They are subtle but there. Yulia made a mistake and compromised the organization URR it’s a close call. She did completely think that plan out to the end but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Lucas is well Lucas. We see how he changes throughout the book how he becomes more obsessed with Yulia How he is also violently possessed with her and how he can’t let go although he tries and what he wants. He is still a hard arse but he has a nurturing, soft side to him. Yulia is his beautiful, treacherous obsession.

There is a cross over with what happened in Chicago just from Lucas POV. I think there is something wrong with me to be honest. Whereas I don’t think it was meant to entertaining or even funny I couldn’t help not be amused by it and outright laugh on the tram.

Maybe I have a strange sense of humor actually I definitely have a strange sense of humor.

The penny finally drops for Lucas about bloody time as well.

“Who is he to you?” Yulia’s eyes widen. “You don’t know? But you said-““I think it’s possible I misunderstood,” – You think Lucas?

They are perfect for one another. I love them together. They fit. Lucas is a randy bastard though and I love how he put Yulia first.

“There is no happily ever after for people like us”.

But in this case maybe there just is.

“It’s not tender or pretty like I thought it would be. Some might even say it’s ugly. But it’s us. It’s our reality, our version of perfect.

There are a lot of things I didn’t see coming. Yulia’s demons from the past. Full of lies, deceit and betrayal. And yet over and over again she sacrifices herself for her brother and Lucas. She doesn’t know any differently.

Cute that Nora thinks she’s playing with the big boys. She only can thanks to Julian. Lucas stands between Yulia & Julian Esguerra by going their separate ways. You know the whole she took the plane down I mean you could have forgiven her but no things have to be complicated. So he nearly died it wasn’t personal. But it turns out true loyalty had to be rarer than unicorns in the arm dealer’s world.

Lucas is a man of very few words but the words he does say, le sigh

“You’re my reason for existing now.” His eyes glitter fiercely “You’re my everything [….] even when I hated you, I loved you.”

The ending for Yulia & Lucas felt pretty anti-climactic. There is a bonus scene with Julian & Nora but I felt that it didn’t fit in here at all.

I would have liked to have seen a bonus scene based solely on the main characters of this book.

So Ms. Zaires what’s up next? When will we get Peters book? Do I see a book with Jared Winters, the portfolio manager and Rosa? Although I’m not a fan of Rosa at the moment. But I’m sure that Ms. Zaires will wave her magic wand and rock it. Will we see a book with Misha?
