Deciding to clean up before thinking about what to do for dinner, I grab a quick, hot shower, then wrap a towel around my hips and walk through to my bedroom. I shut the bathroom door behind me, noticing the house is significantly quieter now that there’s not a rock concert being held in my living room.
Moving toward my closet, I pull out some sweats and a tee along with some boxers, and I lay them on the bed. Just as I unwrap the towel and start drying myself off, my bedroom door slams open and Alex bounds in, waving a rolling pin above her head like it’s Thor’s hammer, and she’s ready to attack.
“Whoa!” I splutter
“I’m calling the cops, mother fu—Gio? Oh, hell. Um—”
I stare flabbergasted at an equally shocked Alex, her weapon arm falling down to her side, her eyes wide and her chest heaving. My heart thumps against my ribs as I try to calm my own breathing, all the while trying to process what the hell just happened.
Her gaze drops . . . then drops again, before jerking up to my face.
“Ah hell,” I curse, one hand moving to cover my junk, the other blindly grabbing at anything on my bed to cover myself up with. To her credit—and my relief— Alex turns around to face the wall, giving me privacy.
“I’m so sorry. In my defense, I didn’t know.”
“Didn’t know?” Do I have a third nut I don’t know about? Just to be sure, I move my hand out of the way to make sure everything is as it should be down there.
A soft gasp escapes her, and looking up, I catch Alex’s deer-in-the-headlights look in the mirror facing my bed, the mirror giving her a full-frontal view of my uncovered body—again. Her cheeks turn pink before she drops her gaze to the ground.
“Didn’t know what, Alex?” I ask again as I quickly pull on boxers then my sweats, making sure the important bits are covered before I can inadvertently flash my new roommate with the goods a third time.
“That you were home. I didn’t hear you come in, and I figured you would’ve said hi or something when you did. So when my music stopped and I heard a door shut and then footsteps, my brain went to the worst-case scenario and defaulted into self-preservation mode.”
“With a rolling pin? Don’t you have pepper spray or something in your purse?”
“No. I just have a whistle,” she says before she turns around to face me. “Hold up. Why are we discussing weapons of choice to use when I mistakenly think there’s someone in the house?”
“’Cause you thought I was a home invader, and instead of running out of the house and maybe calling the cops, you ran in here all hot air and bluster, armed with a kitchen utensil. I think this warrants a conversation.”
“Do you have to be shirtless for it? It’s kind of distracting, that’s all.” She waves her hands in front of her, gesturing to my chest.
“Not like you haven’t seen me already, roomie,” I reply, unable to fight my smirk.
She snickers as she lifts her eyes to mine. “I’m sorry.”
“For accosting me with a weapon of pastry creation or copping a look in the mirror?” I ask with a questioning brow. Her lips twitch up and I frown. “What?”
“Get it? Copping a look?” she replies with a giggle.
I roll my eyes and fight a snort at her goofy sense of humor.
“I kind of just went into fight-or-flight mode.” Her shoulders go back and she glares at me. “Besides, you could’ve at least told me you were home.”
“I tried, you were too busy being mid-hip shimmy.”
“Oh,” she mumbles, her shoulders visible dropping. “I was cooking our first roomies dinner.”
My head jerks back. “That’s a thing?”
She shrugs. “I wanted to say thank you for letting me move in, and since it was the first time we’ve been home at the same time . . .”
Damn.
“Shit. Okay, well if you’re not traumatized from seeing me naked and dinner’s not ruined because you ran in here like a modern-day Wonder Woman, I’d like that.”
She gifts me a wide, genuine smile, and for a moment, I forget that I’m standing there shirtless in a pair of grey sweats and my new roommate has already seen me naked. Because that smile is dangerous and has trouble written all over it.
Remember she’s your roommate, Gio.
She steps forward and holds out her arm to me. “Truce?”
My brows bunch together as I shake her hand. “For what?”
“We’ve only met face-to-face two times, and you’ve already pulled a gun on me, and I’ve stormed in ready to bash you with a rolling pin. I’d say we’re even now.”
“Truce then,” I agree with a nod and a shake of her hand.
Alex steps back and doesn’t hide the full-body perusal she gives me. “Brilliant. Well, not that I’m complaining—because damn, who knew you had that hiding under there?—but growing up, we always ate supper fully dressed.”
I bark out a laugh and shake my head. “I think I can manage that.”
“Awesome. See ya soon, roomie,” she says before turning around and skipping her way out of the room. Stopping in the doorway, she shoots me an amused smirk. “By the way, shrinkage obviously isn’t an issue. Good for you.”
I’m left standing there with my mouth agape and absolutely no comeback.
And it’s not until Tom Petty starts blaring from the kitchen again that I realize I better get moving.
Life is going to be interesting with Alex Maxwell around. But maybe that’s exactly what I need.

“I’m being asked if table thirty-three can incorporate thirty-four into their party.”
Julian looked over to see a crowd of men gathered around the larger high-boy table. “No, give it some time. St. Clair’s a good customer. Get some barstools from the back, and let’s see if he arrives.”
“Hey, Julian. Have we heard from thirty-four? Is he coming in tonight?” Remington, another waiter, asked from about the midway point down the bar where he loaded his tray with cocktail glasses. “One of my guests wants to know.”
“Who wants to know?” Julian looked over to Remington’s section of tables as if a large red arrow would point him out.
“The older guy at table twenty-seven.”
Julian’s gaze locked on that table. All the men looked older, sophisticated, well put together, and handsome. Damn.
“Which one?” Julian asked.
“The older one,” Remington repeated, then turned with his tray full of drinks in his hand. “Is he coming tonight?”
So, the Marlboro Man had built a fan club involving more than just the club’s waiters and bartenders. Julian’s possessive side stood on guard. “We’re holding the table for him, but he’s late.”
Julian dug into the salad with his fork, stuffing a big bite into his mouth, and reached for the untouched glass of water nearby. He chomped out his frustration that the big, tall cowboy hat wearing mystery man was building some possible hookups.
Julian had watched as Beckett sat alone for hours at his table until some of the waiters were cut from their shifts and ended up joining the guy. Beckett had become a welcome patron in the club and his table a safe place for most of the guys who worked for Reservations to gather.
No, Julian hadn’t missed all the long lingering looks Beckett tossed his way. He liked the way Beckett watched him. Those intriguing brown eyes and that appealing gaze. Beckett was all man, every single inch of him. He knew that for a fact because he’d rubbed himself against all that masculinity when they’d danced.
An unexpected sensation had Julian dropping the fork in his hand to the plate, his gaze lowering to his trouser-covered cock. Holy hell, the way it plumped painfully against his zipper had his heart thumping wildly in his chest. The damn thing did, in fact, work. How long had it been since he’d grown hard? He couldn’t remember. Tears of happiness sprung to his eyes, making him fight to swallow the lump forming in his throat. Damn, it felt good.
How much had he had to drink? Regardless of his actions over the last few days, Julian had given up alcohol. Should he have been drinking this whole time?
“Boss, you good?” Ricco tapped the edge of the bar to gain Julian’s attention.
He paid the bartender no heed, not wanting to lose this moment. Julian had only had two cocktails over the last couple of hours. That meant he was practically sober, yet his cock was working again for the first time in a long while.
Under Ricco’s intense scrutiny, Julian’s cock deflated. He closed his eyes, bringing forth images of Beckett sitting alone at his table, rarely speaking to anyone. Every single time Beckett showed up or planned to leave for the night, his gaze sought out Julian. No matter how hard Julian fought the urge to turn Beckett’s way he eventually would turn, helpless to do anything but.
Beckett would smile and touch the brim of his hat. Fuck, what a sexy move. Beckett’s strong jaw and full lips, his dark tanned skin… Julian’s dick swelled at warp speed.
Hell yeah. Julian was helpless to stop the tear that built enough steam to trickle down his cheek. This had to mean he was healing, right?
“Julian. You good?”
He opened his eyes, prepared to share with Ricco exactly why he was great right now. His hand reached to wipe away the tear when the unique scent of outdoors, sunshine, and exotic spices hit his senses. Unmistakably Beckett. He looked over to see an expansive masculine chest and broad shoulders leaning into him as Beckett busted a move to avoid a collision with one of the busboys.
Julian lifted his gaze. Of course, he held all of Beckett’s undivided attention. They locked gazes for one, maybe two long seconds, before Ricco’s hand slapped down hard on the bar top, pulling Julian’s gaze toward Ricco.
“What?” He said the word with maybe three syllables of frustration.
Ricco showed zero cares about Julian’s obvious annoyance “Are. You. Goooda?”
“Mind your business. Concentrate on the job you’re being paid to do.” Julian motioned to the line of waiters standing at the bar, waiting for their drinks. But even that only held his attention for the briefest of moments before he happily lowered his gaze again to his dick. The damn thing was rigidly hard, straining against his form-hugging pants. Holy fuck. The relief was staggering.
Julian dropped his head between his shoulder blades, thanking the universe for this blessing.
“Mr. St. Clair, we were getting worried about you,” Ricco said.
“Call me Beckett.” The rich masculine timbre held hints of a deeply cultured southern accent, drawing Julian’s gaze to Beckett once again.
“A guy at one of Remington’s tables wants to buy your drinks tonight,” Ricco said to Beckett as he started to pour again. “He asked me to see if you’re interested when you came in.”
Julian’s head dropped forward; he couldn’t help his astonished stare. He got caught up in Beckett’s new look. Julian’s gaze narrowed to Beckett, admiring how he wore the hugely popular suit with the athletic cut. Beckett looked fashionable in a style that accented every one of his masculine curves and edges. He was clean-shaven with his hair styled and pushed back off his forehead. No cowboy hat to be found anywhere.
“Which table?” Beckett asked and turned toward the grouping of tables. His body angled to look where Remington pointed to a group of three men. Julian looked down the length of Beckett’s long body. He wasn’t wearing boots tonight or a tie. Instead, his collar was unbuttoned with a small amount of fur peaking from the opening. The look suited him. Julian’s fingers twitched to run over the man’s exposed skin. He’d bet Beckett had the same dark tan all the way down that expansive chest.
Beckett was mouthwateringly gorgeous in this new look. Who would have known the man could be even more handsome than Julian remembered?
Tonight, the man held an air of confidence that he didn’t usually have. Beckett lifted a hand to the men, grinned a sultry smile, and turned back to Ricco. “Buy his next round on me and tell him thank you, I’m flattered, but I’ve got my eye on someone else tonight.”

They had pulled over, and Gaby undid her seatbelt and tugged her boots off. “Slide over.” She patted the middle seat. Brad scooted closer to her.
Gaby threw a leg over his lap and straddled him. “Mmm, a sleepover, huh?”
“Yes, so I can hold you.” He ran his hands along her calves.
“I’d be game for that. What about tomorrow night? I work until close, and then I’ll come over.”
“That would be great,” he whispered against her mouth.
Not waiting any longer, he licked her lower lip and placed a few soft kisses along her jaw. Gaby tilted her head to the side, allowing him full access to her neck. He followed her cue and left a trail of kisses down her neck and then to her ear.
She let out a soft moan and dug her fingers into his shoulders when his tongue flicked her earlobe. “Kiss me?” she begged quietly.
“Soon,” he muttered against her neck. “Your skin is so soft and sexy here.”
Brad smoothed his hands over her calves and under the hem of her dress to her thighs. He whispered in her ear, “Your skin is soft and sexy here too.”
Another moan escaped her throat, “mmm.”
Gaby angled her body toward him and took his mouth, pushing her tongue inside. Brad flicked his tongue against hers and slid his hands higher to just under the upward curve of her ass. His fingertips were only inches from her damp heat.
She mumbled against his mouth, “Touch me.”
He squeezed her where he had cupped her bottom. “I am.”
Her eyes flickered open and met his gaze. “You know what I mean.” She squirmed against his hands.
The corners of his mouth twitched. “I’m not sure I do.”
Gaby playfully swatted his upper arm and then leaned close, hovering her mouth just above his ear. “I. Want. You. To. Slide. Your. Finger. Inside. My. Panties. And. Me.”
A deep chuckle erupted from his throat. “You’re a dirty girl, Gabriella.”
She threw her head back and groaned. “You’re impossible. Why are you playing hard to get?”
“I’m not.” Brad couldn’t bring himself to intimately touch her in the front seat of a truck like they were in high school.
“You are too. Here I am practically begging you to finger me, and you won’t. The other day I offered to stroke you, and you turned me down. What’s going on? It’s not like we haven’t fooled around before.”
She lowered her hips down and ground herself on his erection. “I know you want me, but why don’t you want to? You know I ache for you? I physically feel my body ache in ways I’ve never ached before. I crave your hands and mouth on me. Do I have to beg you? Because my body is begging for release. I’m not sure how much longer I can wait.”
