Angry God
 All Saints High #3
 L.J. Shen
  February 15th 2020

From #1 Amazon Bestseller L.J. Shen comes a new, emotional standalone about first love, second chances, and overcoming breathtaking losses at a young age.

Vaughn Spencer.
They call him an angry god.
To me, he is nothing but a heartless prince.
His parents rule this town, its police, every citizen and boutique on Main Street.
All I own is a nice, juicy grudge against him for that time he almost killed me.
Between hooking up with a different girl every weekend, breaking hearts, noses and rules, Vaughn also finds the time to bully little ole’ me.
I fight back, tooth and nail, never expecting him to chase me across the ocean after we graduate high school.
But here he is, living with me in a dark, looming castle on the outskirts of London.
A fellow intern. A prodigal sculptor. A bloody genius.
They say this place is haunted, and it is.
Carlisle Castle hides two of our most awful secrets.
Vaughn thinks he can kill the ghosts of his past, but what he doesn’t know? It’s my heart he’s slaying.

Angry God is a stand-alone, DARK High School Romance. It deals with sensitive subjects some may find triggering.

I am honestly out of words and have no idea what I could write that would describe my feelings for the way that L.J.Shen writes her stories.

There are so many things I would never touch when it comes to plots – trust me I have tons of triggers. Sometimes even I have no idea about them until I read something and think “Nope – NO WAY” – But then comes an author like this one here and I am not even blinking when I read about things that go so far beyond the point of “normal” that they should be located in another dimension. And I already define normal loosely by the standards of “hey this is a novel so its fiction right”

Bad things happen in this world and where you think “HOW?… I could never” … and then you read a plot like this and think … “YES … I understand!” sometimes even to the point of “I would help you with that” and no matter how dark something seems to be you really understand the motivation that moves the characters – you relate with them in some more or less twisted way.

I am not usually a person for dark romances as they would be called – again it’s only something I touch when an author that is special to me writes them. L.J. Shen is such an author .. She is a one-click for me to the point that I would not even check the plot before.

Her way with words is so rare and beautifully dark,
the way she digs her finger into the bottom of everything that humans are made of … it seems she is never afraid of anything. And every time you think there is no possible way she could find something new to push you out of your comfort zone – she does it again … and again…

I wish I had the chance to meet her – I would hug her and thank her for bringing things out in the open – showing them from all sides and pushing you ask yourself uncomfortable questions …

REVIEW: The Assignment by Penelope Ward

The Assignment
Penelope Ward
February 28th 2022

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano.
Number one: He’s obnoxious.
Number two: He and I were enemies over a decade ago in high school.
Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend.
I could go on and on, really.
When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents—the grandson turns out to be Troy. He’s now as successful as he is undeniably handsome.
Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice.
The only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face in between our many arguments.
Eventually, though, we slowly warm to each other and our outings become something I actually look forward to.
What’s happening to me?
Apparently, I misunderstood the assignment, because it certainly didn’t include thinking about Troy when I close my eyes at night, imagining what it would be like with him—just once. All the while hating myself for fantasizing about a guy who’s all wrong for me. A guy whose car I keyed back in the day. (Long story, but he deserved it.)
That’s all this is—a fantasy.
Well, until that one night at the bar.
The night Troy and I run into each other, and all of our pent-up frustration comes barreling out.
Still, I refuse to accept that it means anything.
There’s no way the guy I’m supposed to hate is also the one I can’t live without.

The Assignment by Penelope Ward was really a blast. It was full of emotions. Love, hate, humor ad everything else. That’s what I love about the stories from Penelope. They take you on a rollercoaster of emtions and at the end of the ride you don’t know where your head is.

The same goes for this book. I couldn’t put ir down. I had to read this in one night. Yeah who needs sleep anyway?!  There are always some twists and turns you’re not ready for. The author really did an amazing job by transferring the feelings from the characters to the reader. You can feel everything they feel. The writing is perfect. It just flows like a river. Sometimes wild, sometimes calm.

If you know Penelope Ward and read her books, you know that I have no other chance but to leave 5 amazing stars for this book. And I can’t wait for the next one. Although I kinda would like it, if Penelope would write a story togehter with Vi Keeland. It’s been too long…..

Enticed
Two Marks #3
Renee Rose & Vanessa Vale
March 1st 2022

TWO MARKS PACK RULE: DON’T MIX WITH RANCHERS

In Wyoming, we’re the law.

We keep the pack’s secret — and our wolves — safe from our neighbors, the ranchers.

Then we meet her.

The one we’ve been waiting for. Our mate.

Only she’s a rancher—the nemesis of our pack. Worse, she’s the daughter of a wolf hunter.

When danger encroaches on her land, we’re sent to investigate.

We want to protect her. To prove to her we’re exactly what she needs.

But she may be part of an illegal operation. And now she knows we’re more than two rugged cowboys bent on making her ours, which means she could destroy not just us, but the entire pack.

Regardless of the truth, we must claim her. Our lives depend on it.

One way or another we’ll have her. Or die trying.

Enticed (Two Marks #3) by Renee Rose and Vanessa Vale is the third book in the Two Marks series…. And I hope that it won’t be the last. I love this series. I mean what is there not to love. You have TWO very hot lawman, a beautiful heroine and an explosive story that really got me hanging on the edge of my seet.

I’m a sucker for threesome stories, so you should be open to that. But the fact how they all treat their women like queens is amazing. Not every story has such a great dynamic between a trio. Believe me, I read many stories where that went horribly wrong. The authors really know how to transfer this feeling to the reader and that is why these stories about the hot wolf shifter are so enjoyable to read.

So please Renee Rose & Vanessa Vale. Please let there be another hot story with handsome wolf shifters!! We need it!!

REVIEW : Just One Year by Penelope Ward

Just One Year

Just One Year
 Penelope Ward
February 24th 2020

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

The beginning of my sophomore year in college was off to a rough start.
On the first day of orientation, I had an altercation with an infuriating British dude in a campus bathroom.
(The ladies’ room was out of order. So, I used the men’s room. Don’t judge.)
I got home later that night and realized that the foreign student we were expecting to rent a room in my parents’ house was allergic to our cat.
So, the spare room went to someone else: Caleb—the British guy from the men’s room.
And so it began…my love-hate story with Caleb Yates. Or was it hate-love in that order?

The guy knew how to push every one of my buttons.
Sometimes I’d email him to express my aggravation and disdain.
He’d actually rewrite my own words and send them back to me.
That was the type of infuriating person Caleb was.
So frustrating.
And…
Sometimes incredibly funny and endearingly sweet.
And hot.

He eventually grew on me, and Caleb soon became one of my best friends that year.
Too bad he was headed back to England soon, so nothing could happen between us—for so many reasons.
I definitely couldn’t fall in love with him, especially since all we had was just one year.

Reading my first Book by Penelope Ward – which was “Stepbrother Dearest” is not something that is easily forgotten. Even if it has been Years since I read it some of the moments still stay with me. And ever since I finished reading it I was hoping to read something of a similar plotline and intensity from her again.

Well now I have … and you can guess it … it was “Just one Year” – while the End of “Stepbrother Dearest” will forever be burned in my Heart – Just one Year just took a close second because I love her books with leads that are in the YA area.

(of her single written books – because her books with writing partner Vi Keeland are a whole different subject)

It was only the End that I somehow could not bring as close to my heart as I would have wished. Because while I might have understood that is was written because Ms. Ward listend to what the characters needed for their story – I as a reader didn’t need that specific string to love the book.

Still this book is a straight 5 Star that pulled at my heartstrings and had me shedding some small tears (it seems the fullblown ugly cry number one will forever be cocky bastard #shruggs and I can live with that)

This book gives the devoted romance reader (like ME) everything you could wish for. I loved the banter from the first page on. The characters Ms. Ward writes might be not perfect but they are beautifully imperfect for each other and that is were the real magic is hidden.

And with every of these plotlines – nomatter if they are the co or alone written books this author always hides this littel tidbit that will remain with the reader and whenever you notice in your everyday life it will remind you of thes books.

This book is no different and I love that so while you should go and order this book – I will go and try to find a damn s’more “thingy” ….

“Mind blowing!”—Goodreads

The Difference Between Somehow and Someway, the jaw-dropping, sexy and intense second book in The Difference Trilogy from USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez is now live!

The world gave me everything.

After surviving a plane crash, I was lucky to be alive. It was a harsh truth, but one that changed my perspective on how fragile life could be.

So when a fellow survivor caught my eye, I owed it to myself to take a chance and follow my heart.

Bowen Michaels was guarded and broody, but I saw through his well-formed armor. Much like me, he was broken and lost, but together we found our way through the darkness.

For a brief moment, wrapped in his arms, it felt like maybe he was right about fate and we’d been destined to find each other all along.

But when buried secrets of the past erupt, igniting us both, it was hard to believe we’d been fated for anything other than failure.

The world gave me everything. And then it took it all away.

Excerpt from The Difference between Somebody and Someone Book 1

“Sorry, is my mood killing your buzz?” I asked. Her blue eyes sparkled in the glow of the airplane reading light. “It really is.” I shook my head and went back to mindlessly flipping the pages of a magazine I’d bought at the terminal back in Colorado. I’d picked it up with hopes it would be a distraction from the cyclone raging within me on our way back to Atlanta. The minute she ordered that drink, I’d known it was a lost cause. Her hand came across the armrest and landed on my thigh. “Bowen, stop. It’s not a big deal.” It was the truth. Compared to everything we’d been through, our house could have been swallowed by a sinkhole and it wouldn’t have been considered a big deal. Honest to God, I was lucky to still have her at all. It had only been nine months since we’d met, but we’d lived a thousand lives in that time. Unfortunately, that also meant we’d died almost as many deaths. Terrifying, tortuous, agony-filled deaths. We’d also found love though—immeasurable amounts of it. I stared down at her engagement ring. I’d cashed out a huge chunk of my savings account and still had to open a line of credit with the jewelry store to buy the three-karat princess-cut ring. The payment was roughly the same as I paid for my truck each month, but the tears in her eyes as she’d sat in her hospital bed, clutching it to her chest the day I proposed, made it all worth it. She was worth it. Every day, every tear, every worry-filled minute shaved off my life. I’d do it all again. If only I weren’t so helpless to save her. I loved that woman. Whole heart. Whole soul. Bend me, break me, crack me open and she would have been there. No matter how bad it got, she was always a part of me. I wasn’t sure anymore if she could say the same. “Bowen,” she whispered, just as she’d done so many times before. It was a plea. One she knew I’d answer no matter the situation. No matter how mad I got. No matter how much I feared losing her again. My gaze instinctively lifted to hers. She smiled and the sight caused an ache in my chest. It was a lie. God, I missed her smile. “Baby, I’m okay.” She tilted her head to her drink. “I hate flying. That’s all this is.” That was a lie too. My shoulders fell and a loud breath tore from my burning lungs, but I let myself pretend, my mind going back to a time when it could have been the truth. I thought of the nights we’d shared multiple bottles of wine and made love, laughing and moaning under the covers until the sun crept across the horizon. She’d rested peacefully in my arms. No nightmares. No crying in her sleep. No insomnia. Just even breaths, her head on my shoulder, and her body wound around mine so tightly it was like a second skin. But that was the past. The unreachable, insurmountable past. The plane jerked, forcing me back to the present. “Shit.” She moved her hand off my thigh to grasp her drink as it sloshed all over her. “Crap, crap, crap,” she chanted, using a cocktail napkin to dry the dark-red pool of tomato juice on her white pants. For a moment, I sat there and watched her struggle. It wasn’t the most chivalrous thing to do, but I was all out of grand gestures. She unbuckled her seat belt and lurched to her feet, her phone along with a handful of ice cubes from her lap falling to the floor. “Damn, this is going to leave a huge stain.” The plane jerked again and she stumbled forward, crashing into the seat in front of her before I could catch her arm. “Dammit, sit down before you get hurt.” Ignoring me, she bent over to fish her phone from under the seat. “Hit the button for the flight attendant. I need some club soda and a lemon. STAT.” “No, what you need is to sit down.” I gave her arm a tug and dragged her down to the seat. Using the tip of my boot, I swept her phone toward her. Aforementioned lack of chivalry aside, I was no contortionist; leaning over to pick it up was out of the question. She folded her upper body over my lap and blindly patted around the floor. I fought the urge to run my fingers through the back of her hair. In the beginning, it would have been a no-brainer. I’d have curled forward and suggestively whispered in her ear, “Since you’re already down there…” She would have grinned up at me, her whole face filled with mischief as she traced a finger over my zipper, ignoring anyone who dared to watch her as she replied, “You mean down here?” I’d have grabbed her hand and made her stop even though I was the one who had started it. She had no filter. She always took it one step too far. I’d loved that about her when we’d first met. It was fresh and exciting, a far cry from the stuffy women I’d dated in the past. But now, she was in the past too. We were in the past.

Prologue Olly

Two Years Earlier

God, she was so pretty. I clenched my hand at my side to avoid reaching out and touching her. She was also too young for me and she was my best friend’s little sister, but neither of those things seemed to matter when I was looking at her. I was always looking at her, but she was looking at him. Lucas grinned at her from across the table, and a soft blush bloomed across her cheeks. He was one of my best friends too, but I wanted to kill him when he looked at her like that. My stomach hardened as I watched them. I knew I didn’t have the right. She wasn’t mine, but for some reason, she felt like it. She had felt like it for far longer than I liked to admit. “What are you up to today, Frankie?” She pulled her attention away from Lucas long enough to look over at me. “Not a whole lot. I thought I might go for a swim before the party tonight. You’re going, right?” “Yeah.” I nodded. “I’ll be there.” “Good.” She smiled at me as she leaned against her hand. “What about you, Lucas? Are you going to be there?” I clenched my teeth as I waited for his response. He always treated Frankie as if she wasn’t important. He treated her like she wasn’t the most important person in the room even though she looked at him like he was the most crucial thing in her life. “Of course.” He rubbed his hands together as he talked, but he was barely looking at her. “I need to get fucked up or laid tonight.” Frankie’s shoulder slumped the smallest bit, and she looked away before either of us could see her face. A face I knew she was attempting to school to hide her hurt. “Real classy, Lucas.” I rolled my eyes because even though I had been friends with Lucas for what felt like forever, I still didn’t see what Frankie saw in him. I was beginning to wonder why I was friends with him at all. “Come on, Frankie. Let’s go hit the beach before the party.” “Okay.” She nodded and stood from her seat. “Let me grab my suit.” As soon as she left the kitchen, Lucas leaned back in his chair and chuckled. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” I glared at him. “What’s wrong with you?” He laughed harder. “You look like a lovesick puppy over Beck’s little sister when you can get any pussy you want in the entire school. Don’t let a piece of ass make you look so pathetic.” “Don’t fucking talk about her like that.” My pulse was racing as I clenched my fists at my sides. “You have no idea…” “What are you assholes talking about?” Beck interrupted us as he walked into the kitchen and grabbed an apple off the island. “Trying to get Olly laid.” Lucas smirked, and my fingers tingled with the urge to knock it off his face. “It’s about damn time.” Beck wrapped an arm over my shoulder and laughed. “You’ve been a little tense.” “Fuck you both.” I shrugged Beck off me just as Frankie came back around the corner. She was wearing a simple black bikini, but I couldn’t look away. “Hey, you ready?” She held a towel against her stomach, and I watched as her eyes flashed over to Lucas before looking back at me. “Yeah. Let’s go.” I opened the back door and waited for her to walk through. This was Frankie’s house, but I felt like I knew it as well as my own. I practically lived here most days. Frankie walked in front of me, and I stared at the soft slope of her back as she pushed through the back gate and out onto the sand.

Excerpt

Alec was practicing high-kicks on one of the bags. I stopped short in the doorway. He wasn’t wearing a shirt, only black training pants. His muscles tensed with every kick and the artificial light of the halogen lamps made his skin look golden. A large black dragon tattoo covered his right shoulder, hiding the scar he got as a small boy. He’d fallen through a banister, down two floors, after his parents had abandoned him in a crowded mall the day before Christmas. He shouldn’t have survived the fall, but his Variation saved him. Alec always said his Variation helped him cheat death but the FEA helped him survive. He had more scars scattered across his body, from missions I had been too inexperienced to join—until now. Without looking over at me, he said, “You’re two minutes late.” He did another kick before he turned around. His eyes immediately dropped to read the words on my chest. Warmth crawled up my neck and I promised myself I’d thank Holly later. He tore his gaze away from my breasts and looked at my face, showing not a hint of embarrassment. “Nice shirt,” he said dryly. “Oh, and twenty push-ups for being late.”  My smile faded. I walked up to him, trying my best not to openly admire the display of muscles on his chest. “Oh come on, Alec. Don’t act all high and mighty. You’re not Major.” His gray eyes held mine, his expression hard. “Thirty push-ups, Tess.” His voice was strained. Every time he used that nickname, I wanted to bury my nose in his neck and let him hold me. Many years ago, my mom had called me that. Back when she’d still cared for me, maybe even loved me.  I got down on my knees and supported my weight with my arms. The first few push-ups were okay, the following ones not as much, and by the time I reached number twenty my arms began to quiver.  “You should work out more often. Your arm muscles are almost nonexistent.” What the hell. Was he trying to be funny? My arms weren’t that bad. Not everyone could be as strong and muscley as Alec. Actually, nobody was. “Shut up,” I retorted. I pushed myself up again. Only ten more to go. The mat beneath my body was the same pale green as the hospital gown Madison wore. A vivid image of her frail body flashed before my eyes. My arms gave way and my face hit the mat. The faint smell of feet and sweat crawled into my nose.   “Tess?” Alec put a warm hand on my shoulder. His voice was colored with worry. He sat down beside me and silence settled around us. “Do you want to talk about it?” Suddenly, I wanted to talk to him, wanted to tell him everything—much more than my thoughts about Madison.

Title: The Assignment
Author: Penelope Ward
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 28, 2022
BLURB
