RIVER
I’m halfway through my second tour and while I love the spotlight and singing for sold-out stadiums, the stalker I’ve picked up has put a damper on things. The fame that was smooth sailing has become dark, fueling my nightmares and making me feel unsafe.

I’m grateful White Picket Fences Records treats all the artists on the label like family. They prove how much they value my well-being when they send me two new bodyguards. For the first time since my stalker surfaced, I think he’ll be caught.

There’s only one problem. Kostya and Flynn do more than make me feel safe. They stoke a fire in me I’ve never known before. In many ways I belong to all my fans, but off stage two men own my heart.

FLYNN
When I get the word from my boss, Blake Higgins, that I’m being put on the protection detail for a pop princess, I have some concerns. My skills will be wasted following River around like a puppy.

Everything changes when I meet her. I’ll make sure to keep my woman safe. She deserves nothing less.

There’s only one problem. Kostya and I have to work together. Considering his past, I’m not sure I trust him. The more time I spend with them, the more I realize that if I want River then I’m going to have to learn how to share.

KOSTYA
I’m a man who learned long ago the importance of knowing everything about the business I’m involved in. I may have stepped away from my family legacy, but some of the lessons have served me well. The Bratva life, with me as the prince of the Orlov crime family to my brother’s king, wasn’t for me.

I’ve had my eye on River since the moment she signed with WPF Records. She’s not the first musician I’ve done security for, but I know she’s going to be the most important. When it’s clear Flynn is just as gone for my girl as I am, the thought of sharing her doesn’t make me want to kill him.

There’s only one problem. We aren’t the only ones interested in our songbird. We’ll protect her. We’ll find her stalker. We’ll make her ours. She might share her song with the world, but her body, her soul and her heart? They’re ours.

**18+. If you like alpha heroes and an insta-love story that is sweet and spicy but isn’t necessarily simple, then this is for you. No cheating with a guaranteed HEA. It is a standalone but is related to my Denver Family series (Banks Ink., Suburban Outcasts and Higgins Security). Meet Kostya in When We Woke Up (After I Do Series).**

Excerpt

My new neighbor arrived at midnight on a Thursday. First came the moving truck, followed by a Jeep Wrangler. Mrs. Cooper, the former owner of the house, passed a while back. A damn shame. The woman was not only nice, but she made biscuits like you wouldn’t believe. For years the grand old Victorian house sat empty at the end of the cul-de-sac. Not unusual for a small town. Few people wanted to move to the middle of nowhere in Northern California, no matter how picturesque it might be. While the place had been sold not long after listing, there’d been no sighting of the new owner until now. “What the heck?” I mumbled to myself, standing at the window. Who moved in the middle of the night? It seemed covert and suspicious. Like something a criminal or government agent would do. Although, maybe they just traveled far and this happened to be the time they arrived. But most people would stay at a hotel and wait for daylight to do this sort of thing. Surely. The only things ever happening at midnight in Wildwood were: 1. Harry, the town drunk, performing Bob Dylan classics in the middle of Main Street. 2. Me, an insomniac, wandering aimlessly around my house. That was it. Everyone else in the whole wide world—or our corner of it—was fast asleep. Half hidden behind a curtain, I watched the truck being unloaded. A full moon shone down through the pine trees as the moving men hauled stuff inside. The first guy, the one who drove the Jeep, went straight into the house. He was tall and wore a ball cap. That was about all I could see. Maybe he was setting the place up for his wife and family. Maybe he had a boyfriend. He couldn’t possibly be single, heterosexual, under sixty, and emotionally mature. My luck just wasn’t that good. Not that I intended to date again in this lifetime. Whoever he was and whatever he was doing, it would all be known in due course. Such was the joy of small-town life. Once the furniture was moved inside, things got a little dull. There’s not much you can tell about a person from their boxes. I took the opportunity to once again check the locks on all my windows and doors. After that, I made a cup of chamomile tea. Neither of these things helped me sleep, but the rituals were soothing. Mom always said I had a busy mind. I didn’t necessarily think about anything useful, I just thought a lot. At night, I tended to think about books, bad memories, and ex-boyfriends. The last two were often one and the same. As a child, I was the daydreamer who got busted humming in class when everyone else was concentrating. (Like anybody actually needed algebra. If you can work out the discount at a sale, you’re good to go. Then again, this attitude might explain why my life had gone approximately nowhere.) I returned to the window just in time to see my mystery man reappear. The new neighbor strode out to the Jeep and opened up the back. When he once more headed toward the house, the ball cap was gone and his short hair was on display. In each hand he carried a guitar case. I perked up. Musicians were cool. Unless he owned electric guitars and believed in turning the volume up to eleven. That could get old fast. As he got closer to the house, the porchlight hit him and…huh. Something about his profile tugged at a memory. Guess he felt my gaze, because he turned toward my place. And whoa. His lips were a thin line, his jaw set to cranky, and none of it mattered—the man was beautiful. Though he really was strangely familiar. Meanwhile, with only a lamp on behind me, I couldn’t have been more than an outline. A shadowy person lurking in the dark. Great. Nothing like being spied on to make you feel welcome in your new neighborhood. So much better than a casserole or cookies. Wait! I knew where I recognized him from. Only it couldn’t be, because that would be crazy. Absolutely fucking wild. Yet there he stood. “Holy shit,” I whispered. My new neighbor was a goddamn rock star.

The Invitation

The Invitation

Vi Keeland
January 18th 2021

The first time I met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. I’d received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city.

Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever laid eyes on. He asked me to dance, and our chemistry was off the charts.

I knew it wasn’t a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding I was at. But our connection was intense, and I was having a great time.

Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out I wasn’t who I’d said I was. You see, that unexpected invitation I received? Well, it hadn’t actually been addressed to me—it was sent to my ex-roommate who’d bounced a check for two months’ rent and moved out in the middle of the night. I figured she owed me an expensive night out, but I guess, technically, I was crashing the wedding.

Once caught, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. As I bolted for the door, I might’ve plucked a few bottles of expensive champagne off the tables I passed, all while the gorgeous, angry groomsman was hot on my tail.

Outside, I jumped into a taxi. My heart ricocheted against my ribs as we drove down the block—but at least I’d escaped unscathed.

Or so I thought.

Until I realized I’d left my cell phone behind at the table.

Take one guess who found it?

This is the crazy story of how Hudson Rothschild and I met. But trust me, it’s only the tip of the iceberg.

A new, sexy standalone from #1 New York Times Bestseller, Vi Keeland.

Books are my escape from reality and except trying to be safe that is pretty much the most important thing to me just now.

Any minute that you can spend with books is precious – always has been and always will be.

And I have a bunch of authors in my “go-to” circle that actually keep me sane. Vi Keeland is one of them. No matter if she writes alone or together with Penelope Ward.
(And I have no idea how they do it and I honestly would love to see how they actually work on writing their stories.)

I am wondering what I could tell you about Vi’s books that has not been said before in any of my other reviews.

The plot is actually simple on the surface. “Woman crashes wedding and gets caught” But with a good plotter like Vi nothing is ever as simple as it seems.

Her writing is flawless and just what you will want to have in your hands when you sit down on a rainy and cold Sunday afternoon. You will start reading and you will be sucked into the story within minutes.

And even though in case of ” The Invitation” – I pretty much had figured things out early – it did not bother me at all.
The characters were so easy to relate to and I loved the plot. – The way the story was told it was so easy to see the settings and places.
Getting lost in the story was almost to easy.

It might not be the edgiest story Vi has ever written but it sure was the right one for me at this moment.
And I can only hope other readers feel the same way …

I also suggest keeping chocolate close when reading …

REVIEW : Happily Letter After by Vi Keeland , Penelope Ward

Happily Letter After

Happily Letter After

 Vi Keeland , Penelope Ward
October 20th 2020

y love story all started with a letter.

Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter.  A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for.

You see, once a year, my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months.

So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far.

While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father. Her devastatingly handsome, single dad father.

I should have stopped playing fairy godmother then. I should have left well enough alone. But I just couldn’t help myself.  I had a connection to this girl. One that had me acting irrationally.

Like showing up on their doorstep.

Sadie, you know that what you were doing was a very bad idea …. but gosh I – as a reader can fully understand why you did it. Oh, and the word you were looking for is “Betrüger” – so yeah not a great idea … but as I said I fully understand how it happened …

Vi and Penelope made you do it – you didn’t stand a chance against these two – when they pick up their pens – the book character has no choice but to follow them on a wild ride.

This time it was like that movie – with the skyscraper – where the father is …. ahm – no actually I am not going to further follow that thought out loud because – while there might be similarities – this here is probably what the book would have been before they made it into that film – because it is soooo much better … hahahahha

Still, this book was somehow a more quiet version of the writing we are used to from these two authors – it had almost a feeling of reflection to me – I can not describe it any better.

The banter we are always looking forward to was there just different and maybe not as much or as loud.

Maybe it was the touch of Christmas I felt … not sure … but the whole setting made me feel warm inside – and I think that’s actually a great thing right now.

I loved both characters a lot – but to say this book had only two leads – would do all the other characters in this book injustice as the secondary characters here were also really great. –

May I complain about one thing? I have to say I miss the special appearances of certain “things” …. and I would love to have them back at the end of the stories as they were like a connection that always made me remember very fondly my first meeting with the characters from their joined pen power… I am not sure if this is a spoiler …. so I will not be goating you any further …. #innocent look…

In total, I am fully convinced that lovers of this writing duo will adore this book. I would suggest buying the book and maybe to start reading it a little closer to Christmas … on a cold weekend when you have some time for undisturbed reading … under a blanket with some tea or coffee and cookies … – yes you will def crave cookies…

REVIEW : Lord of London Town by Tillie Cole

Lord of London Town

Lord of London Town
Tillie Cole
 October 13th 2020

Cheska Harlow-Wright was born into a life of luxury and privilege. She has never wanted for anything. A comfortable future as a married London socialite ⁣
awaits her. But since the age of thirteen, Cheska has harboured a secret—an unshakeable fixation on a boy who could never offer her anything close to ⁣comfort. A boy steeped in sin and draped in depravity. A boy born into the possessive embrace of darkness. ⁣

When Cheska’s seemingly perfect world is ripped apart by an unknown but deadly enemy, there’s only one person she can run to. One person in the world ⁣who has the power to keep her safe. The one person her weak and shattered heart craves. ⁣

Arthur Adley. The new head of the most feared crime family in London. ⁣

Forced too young to take the helm of the Adley firm, Arthur has become even more ruthless, formidable, and cold than ever before. His enemies are circling, and he must fight—and kill—to maintain his family’s place at the top of the London crime underworld. There is no room for weakness, emotion, or loss of control.⁣

But then Cheska smashes back into his life with the force of a wrecking ball. She has no place in this dark, vicious, and bloodthirsty world. And worse, she is the solitary chink in his impenetrable armour. He’s already pushed her away once, but this time she desperately needs him. She’s broken, lost, and in danger, and he is the only one who can help.⁣

Arthur must protect her. He must destroy those who dare to threaten her, hunt down those who would take what is his. He would raze all of London to the ⁣ground to keep her safe… but can he also protect himself?⁣

The infamous Dark Lord of London Town faces his most brutal battle yet—the crippling weight of the past, the unrelenting enemies lurking in the shadows… and the havoc that Cheska’s presence is wreaking on the granite fortress that was once his heart.⁣

I never checked how many books of Tillie Cole I read.

But I’ve read quite a few …. and some of them were pretty dark – so you might think you know what you are getting yourself into when you start reading “Lord of London Town” – well at least I thought so – and trust me when I tell you … you should throw your thoughts out of the window if you think the same way…

Really Tillie Cole is such a nice person … I met her at a book convention and trust me you would never expect these kinds of stories from her …

Her characters always have these unexpected and dark sides that should make them unredeemable – and I guess it is her special magic – that even in the worst situations -that should be so far out of the reach of a “normal” person – you can still connect to them in some maybe very primal and dark way but it’s still possible. …. and you might find yourself thinking things that should not be ok but somehow they are

Spoilers are a no go for this – so let me give you another kind of example basically unrelated to the book

I always felt it would be impossible for me to imagine a situation where I could kill a person in “cold blood” or “out of revenge” or whatever you would like to call it … then in 1995 I saw a movie … it was “Se7en” … have you seen that? well no spoilers if not – but at the end of the movie – I was sitting in the cinema and along with others I was mumbling “DO it DO it” …
If you know the movie – you have a pretty good idea what I am talking about and why …

So – even if its sort of unrelated to the story of this book – reading Tillie Cole’s books is a little like that – she brings you to an edge that you think you would never cross and then suddenly you’ve crossed it and standing on the other side you know it is bad – it’s dark – its wrong – you KNOW all that but you find reasons to remain there … you find redeeming qualities in the characters so dark its hard for me to compare them to anything.

Because when you are there in the Tillie zone – even the darkest ones are human – you see sides of them they wouldn’t want anyone to see – their weaknesses … you know they would never survive in the light…

But that is ok – they are book characters and for short time you join them in their fictional world – where their darkness is not really hurting living persons – and because of that – within the Tillie zone a lot is allowed – and this book really expanded the drawn lines again.

I always think it should not be possible – but I should have learned by now with this author anything is possible –
so enter at your own risk …

She kissed a girl…and then the girl married a man.

Miranda and Elizabeth were best friends throughout college. They shared everything: the same dorm room, the same group of friends, the same major. Until the night that their friendship became something more, and they shared their first lesbian experience.

The next morning Elizabeth was gone, leaving only a note. She transferred schools and married the “perfect” man her rich parents picked out for her. Other than glimpses in the society pages, Miranda never heard from her again.

Fifteen years later Miranda walks into a Lesbian Spirituality Retreat in the mountains and to her complete shock, one of the other participants is Elizabeth, the woman who broke her heart all those years ago.

Elizabeth spent ten years of her life married to a man she didn’t love and keeping up appearances for her controlling parents. When she finally broke away, they disowned her. But now she’s living life on her own terms: reading tarot cards, doing yoga, eating vegetarian, and dating women.

Seeing Miranda again is like finding the missing piece of her soul. But after the way she broke her friend’s heart, she’s going to have to work hard to convince the other woman that she’s changed and ready to commit to a long-term love with her college crush.

“My College Crush” is book four in the “Friends to Lovers” romantic novella series. Each book in the series is a steamy standalone featuring an LGBTQ couple making the leap from friends to lovers and looking for their “happily ever after”. This book includes explicit sexual activity between consenting adults. It is intended for mature audiences only.

AUTHOR BIO

Rose Bak has been obsessed with books since she got her first library card at age five. She is a passionate reader with an e-reader bursting with thousands of beloved books.

Although Rose enjoys writing both fiction and nonfiction, romance novels have always been her favorite guilty pleasure, both as a reader and an author. Rose’s contemporary romance books focus on strong female characters over age 35 and the alpha males who love them. Expect a lot of steam, a little bit of snark, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Rose lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family, and special needs dogs. In addition to writing, she also teaches accessible yoga and loves music. Sadly, she has absolutely no musical talent so she mostly sings in the shower.
