My Perfect Girl,

I need you by my side, now more than ever. I’m growing weak with every passing day, and my control is slipping. If I were as stubborn as before, no matter how badly I wanted to, I wouldn’t allow you to come to me as a reprieve I desperately sought. I would be content with just hearing stories of your success and watching you on TV. Remember what I had told you the first time we met? I would give you flight and watch you soar high. I would never become the wings that would one fine day become the dead weights to bring you down. I did live up to my words.

You’ve always wished to hear these words from me but I never gave them to you, afraid that you would never leave me. It’s time you learn the truth about my feelings. We’ve known each other for twenty years now but have spent more time apart than together. Staying away from you, meeting time and again only to walk away on different paths? It hurt more than I could ever put in words. My feelings for you can’t be encompassed in the mere four letter word. It transcends time and space. I could never let my feelings for you die, so I chose to set you free to build your life without me in it. Though I couldn’t always be with you, I’m glad that I was there to save you when you needed me the most. Despite us not being together, remember that our lives will always be intertwined, bonded by our unique love. You’ll forever be my perfect girl.

I think it’s time for us to meet again. Yet, I’m hesitating to send you this letter. It’ll just cause you more heartbreak, when all I want is to see you happy.

For the first and last time, I’ll leave this decision to fate. Even without this letter, I know you’ll come for me.

Yours truly,
Ayden

“I owe you an explanation,” he started and the bird of hope started flapping its wings rapidly. “And yet, testing your responses is fun. So, maybe I’ll make you wait a little more for it.” I wasn’t particularly pleased hearing that. I was enticing enough for him to put me through his ‘tests,’ but I was unsure of whether my heart could take it. And yet, I met his challenge head-on.

“What do these tests entail?” I asked unsurely. Without saying another word, he took a step closer. In such proximity, his magnificent aura diminished my presence. Despite being just an inch away, he felt out of my grasp. He was at a level that would probably take me years to reach. He would have surely left by then. Why would he wait?

“Pursuit of answers is what spoils the fun,” he whispered. “The secret of enjoying life is simple. Don’t go searching for answers, the kind of choice you make when reacting to situations forges into answers. It’s not right or wrong. They are simply yours and that’s more than enough. Get it?” This is what I meant. He was on another plane altogether. But even as I wrapped my head around his words, my thoughts aligning with his thinking, I caught a glimpse of a bridge that would take me to his plane or horizon. The excited and love-struck part of me was all ready to jump on that bridge unsure of what it was even made of. Even if it turned out to be a hanging bridge, I wouldn’t hesitate. But the logical part of me won out and I just stood gazing up at him, realizing that the wait to crossover would be a very long one indeed.
