| Going into the first pages of A Five-Minute Life by Emma Scott I was skeptical knowing that this could go either way. Could there be something like a HEA with a blurb like that. After reading “Me before you” I tend to stay away from plots that have HEARTBREAK written all over them – especially reading an advance copy.
But something drew me to it and I could not resist. And what a heartbreaking yet beautiful story it was. And it was certainly not following the general rules – I almost feel sorry that I cannot reveal the deeper meaning of that line because of spoilers. But let’s say up to a certain point I thought I knew what was going to happen and it almost killed me. I am not sure what I should tell you about the story as I keep thinking it would be best if the reader knew nothing more than what the actual blurb is giving him. The characters were beautiful and they could not have been more perfect – well maybe except Thea’s sister – I could have done without her seriously … but the plot needed her character unfortunately #sigh…. One thought remained with me … I would have loved to see one of the word chain pictures … I am pretty sure it would have made the best of all possible covers for this book. It may not be the lighthearted summer read you are looking for at this time of year but it will be worth it so please if the blurb appeals to you READ IT
