Blurb : For years I have been cast away—afar, out of reach, out of sight, out of mind. But now I’m back. I’ve been brought back into the fold, and I don’t know why. But I’ll find out, no matter the cost. I’ll also break free from the shark infested waters littered with those that seek to restrain me, to keep me in line—my ex, my father, my mother, my sister. And as for the Wolfe twin brothers, I’ll take them on. And I’ll take them out too. Drasko Wolfe thinks that he’ll make me his—but I am all mine. If he thinks I am going to be just another conquest, and do things at his behest then he may do so at his own coroner’s inquest.I am not just fighting for my survival, I am fighting for my little brother’s protection, and that makes me doubly motivated and doubly dangerous. I—Riletta Kasonite will best them all and come out on top. I will bow those who seek to hurt me to my will until they renounce their lies—until they come clean and their secrets are exposed. Until I get what I want. WARNING: Contains countless confrontations, not to mention mature, young adult/ adult situations too.

Review : So …how do I start with this review…

Battler by C.L. Masonite does not even have a Blurb yet on GR and no Ratings or Reviews – so whatever I write here will weight double ( at least I feel that way ) and if I add that to the fact that it seems to be the authors debut novel I feel kind of a heavy burden on my shoulders I can honestly say that this is a unique novel in many ways.

I am not sure how much to say on the plot to not spoiler as I have no Idea yet what the Blurb might say later so I am kind of going blind here – therefore I ask for understanding if I say too little or too much. The Story contains many known elements of sport romances and to give you an idea (but really only a rough idea) I would like to throw in “Real” by Katy Evans as a comparison – which is one of my all-time favorites.

And even though this comparison will give nothing away on the plot of this book and I mean really NOTHING … it might still help you to have an understanding on the intensity of the story.

Yet the sport that was chosen is a surprising one and I admit I still have a problem in seeing this sport in the way that it is described maybe I need to be more open. I never imagined this sport to be so … (leaving that open)

The writing of this author is well developed maybe almost to well as some of the verbalizations are almost “high end” which is at times a tad to much and the plot is catching to say the least. If this is really a debut – I would say well done.

I did have some problems with the age of the characters – maybe it is due to the fact that I usually read about bad boys/girls that have either “self made” their money or alpha males that do not need to show off the money they made – I felt here in this story all the characters were high maintenance. Their actions and reasons did not match their age.

I usually try to picture the story while reading and I had huge problems with this part. They felt to young to behave the way they did. Because on one hand they were under the control of “parents” ( and I use that word very loosely which you will understand after reading ) but on the other they did whatever they pleased and in the next there was more blackmail going on than I have ever encountered in a book.

I feel the author has a good story here but (for me) it needs a bit of tuning as it felt jumpy and a tad too much of high maintenance, which then made it difficult for me to really LIKE the characters and connect to them. They felt a little detached to me as a reader because their lifestyle is so strange that I could not find any handle to relate with them.

I think one spoiler warning I have to leave as it is an important fact to many readers – this book ends on a cliffhanger so there will have to at least be a second one coming.

I honestly would like to hear other peoples opinion to judge if I am the odd one out here. I struggle with my rating because of all the facts I just mentioned and additionally because the nature of the story demands that I know the end before rating it. The way that it is just now I would say it is a 3,5 Stars ? maybe ? might be? Could be? BUT it could be more or less – depending what happens next.
