Review : When Charity West wrote “Worth Fighting For” she tried to bring different genres together. The reader will find parts of the “wounded soldier/marine” genre, together with a “friend to lover” vibe and all this in an “High School / YA Surrounding”.

 

It was an interesting concept but I feel the author wanted to much and meshed together what could not work together so well. While I liked the idea and the basic plot very much there was an age issue for me that followed me through the whole book.

 

If it had been placed only a little further like for example into college it would have been more believable. Throughout the whole book I had this feeling that from all the experiences that Jake had he should have been much older than he was (yes I know that war actually does that to a person – but it felt like MORE in that case).

 

Also I had time issues with Jake’s injury and especially with the arrival of Lily’s brother (I do not want to dive into this any deeper because of spoilers) but both events felt unbelievable to me.

 

Do not misunderstand –  I liked the basic story but some stuff was just too far-fetched and other things were really difficult to mesh together. Because except the obvious story that is mentioned in the Blurb there is an additional story hidden within the pages.

 

And it felt that the author wanted to much from the actually quite short book.

 

I think if the author would reconsider the timeline of the whole plot this could be a solid 4 or 5 star read but as it is I am afraid that I am not able to come up with more than 3 stars for this story.
