Review : I just finished reading The Girl Worth Fighting For (The Girl Series, #2) by Julia Goda and I am not sure how to rate this book.

 

When I chose to read this book I expected it to be a standalone story in a series of books with similar direction. Which basically is true but still I can not help but feel that I would have needed to read the first book in that series to understand something.

 

Because if I take only the second book (and as I did not read the first one I have no other choice than to think like this) there is some very important relationship development missing. Logan has set his eyes on Rainey and Rainey almost despises him.

 

The reader gets to hear her reasons and the current status of their “relationship” but we never get to feel why Logan is chasing her.

 

With all the explanations we get from Rainey’s side at first this does not seem to be a problem but the missing parts of their already developed relationship gave me the feelings that Logan is a stalker there were moments when his pursuit of Rainey bordered on creepy.

 

So not only could I not FEEL that there was a good thing in development – no – actually I was about to advice Rainey to get professional help to take care of her stalker. (exaggerating a little). I can only assume that I would feel different about this if I had read the first book.

 

Because NOW I know that the characters we meet in the second book are the ones featured in the first so it is safe to think that Rainey would have made an appearance there already.

 

I tried to come to terms with Logan’s (for me) intense and stalker-ish behavior. But still – where actually I was supposed to feel that Rainey’s behavior was not normal – I was more often than not thinking that she was right.

 

And then there is the subject of Rainey’s father – where I do not even remotely know where to start on how strange and wrong it felt from me from beginning to end (I would like to say more but the spoilers are lingering here around every corner.

 

I was actually speechless at times while the plot unfolded. Because while I kind of “knew” certain stuff from the beginning I would have never guessed the end of it … #shaking my head

 

You guessed right by now that this book was not one of my favorites. And while the subject of the missing relationship development might be resolved by reading the first book (which I only assume) – the other factor of the father can not be resolved so therefore I am not able to give this book more that 3 Stars. I liked the storyline but the development of the plot was not for me.
