Blurb : I’ve learned that not everything is what it seems. If you start to look too close, you uncover things people don’t want you to see. It’s why I hide. It’s why no one knows the real me. But he sees me. He sees the darkness in my heart but he’s not afraid, because he’s like me. They say opposites attract, but we’re proof that like-and-like are a far more potent combination.Novalee Clarke is hiding from a past she wants to leave behind, and Jacen Kensington is running from his. The thing about hiding and running is eventually the thing you’re trying to escape catches up to you.And when it does?It changes everything.

Review : Nova and Jace the leading characters of Dark Hearts by Micalea Smeltzer were an interesting couple. It was my first book my this author and at first I had a little problem in connecting to the characters but once I managed to find a connection I really liked the way they were written.

I really loved how they were always in plain sight and nobody had a clue. So it is no wonder that also had a hard time seeing what was right in front of them. The author is really skilled in leading the reader through this developing relationship. I always felt like I was right there with the characters.

Actually it is funny how well two people can know each other without really knowing each other – yeah sorry I know cryptic much. But even though the secrets they both kept were hurtful they both were strong . Bend yes – but never broken.

Kind of strange – and one reason for the “only” 4 stars is the way the “parents” issue in the story was handled. For all the attention the author paid to the leading characters relationship I think there are some details missing there – at least for me. And it felt that the parts that were included only served one purpose and that was a little to obvious for my taste.

But in total this is a solid and well written romance that I can only recommend. I did not read the other books of that series yet so I could quite follow all the details on secondary characters but that was OK the book is readable as a standalone.
