Goodreads Review

Standalone M/M romance.
I was afraid to fly.
He made me soar.

After years of climbing the ladder of success in the music industry, I finally had everything I could want.
Yet I still found myself wandering through life alone.

Captain Evan Roth was the one man I never saw coming.
Tall, dark, mysterious… Straight.

We were both damaged beyond repair and searching for something so elusive we weren’t sure it even existed.

But, when two broken souls collide in midair, falling is a given.

I just never expected to crave the spiral down.

I finished this book yesterday and since then I’ve been thinking what to write for my review. To be honest I’m scared shitless to post this review as it has received so many high ratings and you know what some people can be like sometimes.

I really have been wracking my brain as to why I can’t give it more than 3 Stars and I’m coming up blank. Ms. Martinez’s writing id flawless. I know that when I read one of her books I’ll get beauty, heartache, banter, great chemistry and a feel good read. I think for a debut M/M read she has done a fantastic job and I can clearly see more books with M/M featuring in her future writing career. There were so many bits of the book that I highlighted in the book. That it is hard to pick which ones are the best.

I am an Aly Martinez fan. FACT.

I couldn’t wait for this book to come out. FACT.

When I got an ARC and wanted to wait to read it nearer to the release date I just couldn’t. So I started it ASAP. FACT.

I even did a happy dance.

BUT…..

Whereas I loved Henry in The Fall Up (The Fall Up, #1) by Aly Martinezand I liked him here I just couldn’t connect with him.

Henry has everything you want in a main character. He is hot, funny well actually he is bloody hilarious. He has a sweet and vulnerable side. He is also cocky, full of himself and well he has the rock star persona down pat. I wanted to see more of his vulnerability. Usually I have a problem with rock star themed but this didn’t bother me at all. Bonus! He has one wish that seems to be so far out of reach.

His greatest fear is to be rejected and that all the people that have been in his life have left him in one way or another. He has Levee his best friend and Robin. Although Robin guts him. Every. Single. Time. He is also scared of flying especially with commercial flights.

Evan Roth left the Academy and well the past ten years he hasn’t been living his life. Evan is also a great main character. It was easier for me to connect with Evan then with Henry. Evan has been in a relationship with a man before that it ended in an awful way. From that point onwards he only dated women.

Enter Henry Alexander where Evan started to reawaken.

Evan becomes Henry’s permanent pilot.

Evan is sweet, a total hunk, patient and seriously an awesome book boyfriend but as Henry has demons that he needs to overcome. HE does and once he is in. He is all in. They have chemistry and banter. I’m actually pissed that I can’t give it more stars but I just don’t have it in me.

Levee and Henry had their banter once again as well.

Yoda/Sam has wise words for Henry after he panics and rushes out on Evan.

Once all of their issues came out it was a bit anti-climactic for me. Huh, that was what it was all about? Makes me sound like a bitch with a heart encased in ice.

Please note that this is just my personal opinion and that I am in the minority. I will continue to be a fan as her work appeals to me.

I loved the epilogue so much that it was the cherry on the top.

Will Scott Dalton get a book? Carter and Robin?
