I was surprised by TEAM Player Anthology containing books by Adriana Locke, Charleigh, Ella Fox, Emma Scott, Kate Stewart, L.J. Shen, Kennedy Ryan, Mandi Beck, Meghan Quinn, Rochelle Paige & Sara Ney.  Novellas / Short Stories are a tricky thing. I honestly believe that sometimes it is much more difficult to write a standalone 5 star novella than a full novel. Because lets be honest if you have such a limited number of pages how do you manage to tell a full story with full developed characters and enough background to draw the reader into your circle ? It has to be a special kind of story written by an author that is good on minimizing details.  And Anthologies are again a complete new set of problems – how can you find ONE rating for a book with so many different authors and stories. I always feel that is impossible so I try to grab one story out of it that appeals the most to me and in this special case it was the story that LJ Shen wrote.

I never read a short story from her but I read several of her novels and I loved them. Her writing skills also managed to convince me this time. I admit a novel will never reach a full blown 5 star level with me. ( I think ), a 4.5 level yes that might rarely happen so you won’t see the difference but I know it. LJ’s story is a solid 4 in my books because she managed to make everything right except the fact that my emotions were not in the story. But again – as I said I can not imagine that really happening … I think the shortest story that I ever read that did that was “Playing in the Rain” by Jane Harvey-Berrick (and I am not even sure how many pages that had) and here I (ughh no not going to comment on the plot).

Back to TEAM Player. I think the Anthology consists of an interesting selection of great authors that should be able to supply something for many different tastes. As with every short story the reader should not expect fully developed characters with extended backgrounds to dive into. But for short reading pleasure of medium intensity these authors will guarantee and I can recommend this collection for you to enjoy.
