For as long as Madeleine “Mad” Rousseau can remember, she’s been the “sweet” twin to her sister Jax’s “sassy.” But after an especially painful break-up, Mad decides she’s had enough of being sweet. Good thinking Ms. Regnery in writing Jax’s book before writing Mad’s book because otherwise I would have had an absolute conniption. I knew why I didn’t like Jax and well now it has just been confirmed.
Mad is Jax’s twin sister, she is the quiet one who for some time has always lived in her sisters shadow.
Mad is a great heroine well she is slightly whiney but who am I to judge? Just a reader. A word of advice to all you ladies never ever date a therapist, they are manipulative, sociopaths and well just not a good idea. Unless you want that person to use all and I mean ALL of your insecurities against you. This happens to Mad and for the final time she calls it quits.
While having a walking pity party, Mad lands in a part of Philly she hasn’t been to before and decides to live by ordering four shots of tequila, drinking them all at once.
“I just threw up… in a bar.” “Yes, you did,” he confirmed, standing in front of her at the foot of the stairs. “Spectacularly.” “Oh God,” she muttered, leaning her forehead on her knees. “The good news is that most of the alcohol probably wasn’t absorbed into your system yet, so you’ll feel much better in a little while.” She sobbed softly, then sniffed. “No lady would throw up at a bar.” “You’re clearly not a lady,” he teased.
That is until she is saved by Cort Ambler. Wow, I am impressed he is a fantastic Hero. He is the broody musician with a heart of gold. He is always doing the right thing even if it ruins the thing he wanted the most. Luckily enough fate gives them a second chance. Cort is an honourable man. He is funny and hits on Mad right from the start.
“I’m not kissing you.”
“You want to though.”
“Merde, you’re cocky.”
But through Cort saving Mad, and them even spending such short time with one another they still don’t want the evening to end.
“Do you drink tea?”
He fucking hated tea. “I’d love some.”
Although I didn’t get it all the drama and why Mad couldn’t have grown a backbone sooner but hey I only have a brother and well things were easily resolved in that department. I’d punch him or call him something quite inventive and then that would have been that. Mad keeps on starting something and then pulls back due to her sister. There is something that is unforgivable and it is Jax’s story to tell. But that is what happens when they get stuck between sisters. See below for the spoiler to the twin sister conundrum.

You don’t date your sister’s ex-boyfriend. Even if it was only for a month, a week, an hour and a second. The feelings had always been there but were only dormant until they met again. And Jax did it all just because her ego took a hit and after so many years she didn’t say anything.
I found this book to still be quite glossy, I was missing some depth to it. They’d meet up although they had commitments and then would just leave. But it is better than Jonquils for Jax. I also have to ask myself if the author is just writing the books in a quick fashion to just please her readers without any real depth. I know I’m being a cow but I feel as if the quality has lessened.
