One night. One party. One girl forever changed.
I was supposed to stay on the path I had chosen. Go to college and make something of myself. But doing it all alone wasn’t easy, and it seemed everyone was against me.
Except James. He was there to catch me when my world crumbled—cradling my emotions and wrapping me in his secure embrace. James was there when the entire world disappeared.
James
One glance. One undeniable connection. One life forever changed.
Keeping myself hidden from a legacy I wanted no part of, I lived a content life. Until her. She swept in, making me forget all the bad that haunted me. Now, the past I tried to run from has caught up, and I have more to lose than ever. She’s the target, and I’m the shield.
She thinks I saved her, but she’s the one who rescued me.
Two worlds. Two hearts. And a lifetime of trials.

“You don’t even know me. How can you love me?”
“I know what you do to me, and I want to get to know you. I want to know all about you, but most of all, right now I want to know what is going on with you because I feel the need to protect you but I don’t know what from.”
“You can’t protect me, everything that has happened is done, and I have to live with it. There is no saving me from myself.”

Reviewing
a book that you received as an ARC is a serious job. Being the first on
Goodreads to do that for/to a book is even more serious – because you
mark the book first and who ever will follow will see this and will
maybe make up his mind because of whatever you wrote.
So let me start at the beginning … “The Night He Saved me” is the Debut novel from Sarah Stevens and it is a good debut.
Her writing is solid and the plot as well as the character development are good.
I choose the book because I like secrets and tortured characters and this book sounded like it might have some of that.
If
you follow my reviews you know that I read a lot of different genres so
I dare saying that I am able to judge a little on what other people
might think.
Therefore,
I would like to advice to the author to place a marking in the Blurb.
Because judging from its cover and the Blurb you would never expect the
amount of drugs and alcohol, as well as sex including especially a
description of a sex related event.
(I
use this description to avoid spoilers but I am sure the author will
know what I mean – otherwise PM me) I am SURE that will be a trigger to
certain readers. The cover lets you expect a YA romance novel but this
is darker and it should be marked to avoid that it is given negative
ratings because people expected something different.
The
story starts of a little slow introducing us to “Katarina” and her life
– which seems a little off at first because the reader is missing on
the background of her life.
But
as the story develops this missing background fades and the focus is
set on other “things” – that is when James is slowly inserting himself
into her life.
And
suddenly the story takes off – acutally it takes of so fast that I
sometimes lost the line to follow. The author had many great ideas for
the plotline and managed to squeeze them all in – it worked – but may a
little less would have been better at certain points.
There were twists and turns and well yeah I really did not see THAT coming about James
I
am rating this book with 3,5 stars. (but anyway I have to give it 4
stars as there are no “half” stars in the ratings anywhere) which is not
bad for a debut novel.
0,5
stars it lost because I was really surprised judging be the blurb how
the story developed and I am an open reader – I mean I just finished a
Dark Romance Review so I know about triggers and I know how people will
react to this plot.
(Gosh
– not even the marking in the Blurb might save you sometimes as an
author because I just saw a review on a novel marked as “BDSM novel”
where a reader wrote “this book contains to much sex” and gave a poor
rating)
And
well the 5th star – no author should be too disappointed if he is not
reaching it with me because – I need either a “cry like a river” (rare)
or “laughing my ass off” (even rarer) event in the book for it to reach
that level.
