REVIEW : Your Echo (Sherbrooke Station #2) by Katia Rose

Your Echo (Sherbrooke Station, #2)

Your Echo
 Sherbrooke Station #2
 Katia Rose
 September 12th 2018

The number one question on Stéphanie’s mind sounds like the start of a bad joke, and life would be a whole lot easier if she actually knew the punch line.

Her meditation coach job description said nothing about private lessons for the most infamous lead singer in Montreal, but somehow Stéphanie still finds herself sitting cross-legged on a yoga mat, right next to a pierced and tattooed music legend who’d rather be anywhere else.

Meditation classes are Ace’s final chance to convince his record label that the last bender he went on really was his last. The demons that have sent him to the bottom of countless bottles might not give a damn about ‘soothing rhythmic chanting,’ but it’s either this or game over for his career.

He’s not what she wants. She’s not what he’s looking for. Yet somewhere amidst all the incense fumes, the lines between student and teacher get blurred.

Even as their deep breathing exercises become nights filled with panting and gasps, Stéphanie can’t ignore the darkness that never quite leaves Ace’s eyes. It’s a darkness she knows far too well, and if she’s not careful, the cost of helping Ace find his way might just be losing herself.

Your Echo is part of the Sherbrooke Station Quartet, a series of steamy rock star standalones from author Katia Rose.

REVIEW : Holding Court by K.C. Held

Title :

Holding Court

Author :

K.C. Held

Series :

N/A

Release date : Mar 1, 2016
Rating : 3 Stars
Blurb :

Sixteen-year-old Jules Verity knows exactly what’s in store at her new job at castle-turned-dinner-theater Tudor Times. Some extra cash, wearing a fancy-pants dress, and plenty of time to secretly drool over the ever-so-tasty-and completely unavailable-Grayson Chandler. Except that it’s not quite what she imagined. For one, the costume Jules has to wear is awful. Then there’s the dead body she finds that just kind of…well, disappears. Oh, and there’s the small issue of Jules and her episodes of what her best friend calls “Psychic Tourette’s Syndrome”-spontaneous and uncontrollable outbursts of seemingly absurd prophecies. The only bright side? This whole dead body thing seems to have gotten Grayson’s attention. Except that the more Jules investigates, the more she discovers that Grayson’s interest might not be as courtly as she thought. In fact, it’s starting to look suspicious…

Review :

I am at a loss about how I should categorize “Holding Court” by K.C. Held. It was YA for sure – and if you ask me – NOT a romance novel. It was more like a “mystery light” …

The story was well developed and more complicated that other novels ment for that age of readers. Actually pretty well written. Unfortunately, as the romance in it fell very flat it was no book for me.
It will be an entertaining read for lovers of funny and intelligent YA I am sure

Christopher is as off limits as he is tempting.
He’s also my patient. So why can’t I resist him?

The incredibly hot, smirking Brit who’s been watching me across the physical therapy clinic for the last month is looking at me again.
Undressing me with his eyes.
Seducing me with a smile.
Driving me crazy with a temptation I know I should resist.
He wants me, and I want him back twice as much.
But being with him could cost me everything.

Christopher is an enigma.
A mystery that doesn’t belong anywhere near a girl like me.
His world and mine were never meant to touch.
I know I shouldn’t even entertain the possibility of a future between a guy who grew up in a castle and girl who grew up in a trailer park.

He says he wants me.
He promises no one will know.
He swears its temporary.
He’s my patient.
I should know better.
But I don’t…

REVIEW : Stripped Raw by Prescott Lane

Title :

Stripped Raw

Author :

Prescott Lane

Series :

N/A

Release date : March 3rd 2016
Rating : 4 Stars
Blurb :

Kenzie

I’m a yes girl. Get your mind out of the gutter; I’m not talking about sex. I’m talking about saying yes to whatever comes my way in life. So when I had the chance to move to Europe after college, I said, yes. When I had the chance to open my own lingerie line, I said, yes. And when my stepsister got diagnosed with cancer and needed me to come home and help her raise her daughter, I said, yes. That’s me, Kenzie — the yes girl! In every area of my life but one —Love. Always the first to leave a relationship. Will I be able to say yes to love — to Kane — to being happy? Or will I simply come undone and be stripped raw?
Kane
Don’t let Kenzie fool you! She’s a master at hiding behind a laugh and a smile. Being an attorney, I prefer the facts. This story isn’t as light and happy as my yes girl would have you believe. No laugh can sugarcoat what we are facing: I’ve lost everything. I know what it’s like to be left raw. But sometimes that’s the only way to find love. To strip yourself down, let the other person see all your sh*t, and hope they love you anyway.
Review :

Please do not ask me to explain it but when reading Stripped Raw by Prescott Lane I had the constant feeling that I stepped into “Rich Man – Poor Man” reloaded.

In case you do not know what I am talking about – which would be understandable since it is a very old Series – I would say that this Series is the one I am always thinking of as the Grandmother of TV novellas – loooooong before Desperate Housewives was invented.
I think it was the relationship between the brothers – or maybe all those different plot strings around the characters that mad me think of this connection – I will never know. But basically I totally enjoyed the plotline, even if at times it came off as a little too much.
I could not fully connect with Kenzie’s character as she seemed superficial on one side and suddenly so involved when it came to Tessa.
Tessa I really liked even if I felt that there were parts left in the dark that only surfaced at the end of the book.
Kane was my favorite character in this book. He had so many layers that the reader was surprised with each page turning as he showed sweet sides as ease as the domineering though alpha male.
Great read

REVIEW : The Price of Brimstone by Allie Gail

The Price of Brimstone

The Price of Brimstone
 —
  Allie Gail
July 18th 2018

There’s a monster in my basement.

That isn’t a metaphor, in case you were wondering. And it isn’t the tagline to some midnight horror flick. Fact is, Locryn Price is nothing if not a monster. One part human, the other part demon, the guy’s got a slab of ice where his heart should be.

Ironic, considering the rest of him is hot enough to start a fire underwater.

Not exactly what I was expecting to find when I came home from college to surprise my brother. I mean, I always knew Russell was a little warped, but now we have a pissed-off, wisecracking demon in shackles and chains as proof.

The October winds are stirring, bringing more than just storms. Two of our friends are missing. Loc knows something, but he isn’t talking. And to complicate matters further, my former crush Max has joined forces with my brother. They think they’ll get answers using spells and pentacles and brute torture.

But the devil prefers to bargain.

My innocence in exchange for the hostages. Those are his terms.

Now I’m in his world. A world of demons, deception and the sweetest of seductions.

And losing my way in the darkness never felt so good.

REVIEW : TRUE BLUE SEALS: ZAK (Seal Brotherhood) by Sharon Hamilton

Title:TRUE BLUE SEALS: ZAK
Author :

Sharon Hamilton

Series :Seal Brotherhood
Release Date : February 20th 2016
Rating : 4 Stars
Blurb :

Zak and Amy are destined for each other. After successfully passing the BUD/S training, and helping to stop a San Francisco terrorist attack, Zak goes to the arena of war with the rest of his SEAL Team 3 buddies, to return a changed man. Amy will have to negotiate the pain in her heart as she works to discover the man she loved going off to war is still the man of her dreams, and only if she can convince Zak he still is that man.

Review :

I just love my “broken” Hero’s – I can not help it … that is how I stumbled across “True Blue SEALs: Zak” by Sharon Hamilton.

I had this author on my radar for quite a while now as I also love Seals but I love so many different genres that its sometimes hard to follow up my TBR pile.
Anyway when I read the blurb to that book – I knew I had to read that one because the plotline really appealed to me.
And I was right. Just as I had imagined Zak’s story will definitely NOT be my last book by this author.
The book is easy to read as a standalone even if it is obviously part of a series. I might recommend to read the novella I heard about before reading this book as it is supposed to explain somewhat more about the background of the leads – but as I said it also will work without that. (I would love to tell you the right name but the series and books have real confusing names on Goodreads if you are not so familiar with the author – which I am not obviously – it is very hard to see).
The book’s plot is written from the interesting perspective that the couple was already in love with each other before Zak was injured during his assignment. This was a refreshing view because usually most of the Military books I read start out with fresh new meet and fall in love couples (I like those clearly) – or broken marriages (there might be exceptions but -no- I do not like those very much) – So this was interesting.
Its clear that their love has to be strong – as it can not be easy to marry a seal – with the ever present knowledge of how dangerous his work is.
Amy is a strong woman that already endured a lot. She loves Zak but life is throwing so much at her that the reader has to ask himself when she will reach her breaking point.
And naturally it is not helpful at all that Zak can not come to terms with what happened to him and his way of protecting Amy is actually hurting her more than anything else.
The question is if their love will overcome the obstacles in the end. Or will Amy reach her breaking point before Zak is able to understand that Amy’s love is stronger than his doubts.

REVIEW : Ravaged River (Men of Mercy #6) by Lindsay Cross

Title:Ravaged River
Author :

Lindsay Cross

Series:Men of Mercy #6
Release Date :Jan 31 2016
Rating : 4 Stars
Blurb :

Special forces operative Hoyt Crowe wasn’t just damaged… he was broken. After suffering brutal torture in captivity, his once lively spirit is shattered. Now his greatest adversary isn’t some unknown terrorist in a foreign country, it’s himself.

Hayden James watched Hoyt slide into a private purgatory of post-traumatic stress disorder, taking her heart with him. No longer warm and loving, he is cold. Hardened. A shell of his former self.
When an old enemy threatens Hayden’s life, Hoyt must find the strength to slay his inner demons or lose the woman he loves forever.
Review :

“Ravaged River” was not my “First Rodeo” with Lindsay Cross’s “Men of Mercy”. Even if I have not been following up the line of Books, it is still an easy enough standalone.

At least once you read the first few pages. The story shows no mercy (pun intended) to reader. It paces at such a high speed that I felt almost out of control at times.
I had to stop and take a deep breath at times before continuing. The story itself is as complex and confusing when it comes to the military parts of it – as it is simple and easy when it comes to the relationship between Hoyt and Hayden.
There is no question really that they belong together – the only question is when Hoyt will realize that (if ever).
Hayden really does her best to continue her life but it is easy to see how much she struggles.
Hoyt is really deep inside the purgatory of his own mind and at times not even able to see what is right in front of him.
Their story is told believable insofar as that the reader can relate to their feelings. And even the complex plotline – years ago I might have said that such stuff can not happen – but I guess recent history teaches us otherwise.
So – yeah – the reader is invited to relate to those characters as hard as that might sound – it is unfortunately possible.
Great story – well written –
