When ER nurse Nora Sellers is hurt in a hospital scuffle, firefighter Zach Walker blames himself. Blaming himself is nothing new. He’s been blaming himself for years for the trauma his baby sister endured as a teenager. Though with his happy–go–lucky attitude no one would know it. He’s good at his job, he’s a good brother, and a good friend, but Zach decided long ago he wasn’t husband and father material.

Even so, when Zach learns Nora is a single mother with a house that needs his help, he can’t walk away. After a few days with Nora and her ten month old son, he knows he doesn’t want to.

But Nora’s wary. She learned at a young age that the only person she can count on is herself. Now with a baby, a job, and a fixer–upper house, the last thing Nora wants is a sexy firefighter, making her heart flutter. But Zach is more than what he seems, and the more she gets to know him the harder he is to resist.

She’s been brave all her life. Can she be brave one more time and take a chance of a lifetime with her heart?

There is just something about Ms. Connor and this series that leaves me with a Happy Face & Goofy Smile.

The McKinney/Walker is one of my favourite series and when I saw this on Netgalley I just had to request it.

Zach Walker firefighter a slight commitment phobe a reformed manho still hasn’t processed what happened to his sister Hannah. But he meets his game changer. Nora Sellers.

I loved Zach, he is a knight in tarnished armour.

Nora Sellers has been alone all her life and it is hard for her to trust people and put down roots with an incident at the hospital where she works she meets the one man that will change everything. Zach Walker.

I docked a star because I wasn’t a fan of Nora but she grew on me and we became friends, we shall never be best buds though.

Waiting for You is a heartfelt romance full of feelz, sweet with an adorable baby (I’m a sucker for single parents, like catnip peeps) that will most likely melt the coldest of hearts.

A must read!

Thoughts & Feelings.

This isn’t really a review as the title states that it is my thoughts and feelings. There was just something about this book that just didn’t work for ME! (ME is big because I am picky in everything I am and everything I do)

Back on topic I read the blurb and was like oh cool, three men and a baby style, I love the film and I mean Tom Selleck and his tasche people.

Once again off topic, sorry. So I liked the concept but when it came to reading it I just didn’t like the characters. The writing is solid and I’m sure that the majority of everyone will dig the plot it is I just didn’t.

Different strokes and all that. But I still recommend the book for the suspense and the other characters in the book.

Peace out!!!

Book Blurb:

Presley McDaniel lives her life from moment to moment.

Making permanent decisions means obligation, and that would force her to stop being the family disappointment. Waitress, fitness instructor, dog walker … you name the hourly job and she’s probably held the position.

But when her grandmother can no longer run her book shop in Fawn Hill, a town so small it barely has its own zip code, Presley steps up to help.

The move from bustling city to green pastures may be exactly what she needs to sort out her life. But she didn’t ask for that happy ending to include a gorgeous veterinarian with an all-American smile and a penchant for snuggling puppies. The good doctor is reliable, responsible, and just the kind of man Presley has always avoided.

Love and commitment are predictable.

So why, the moment she lays eyes on him, are they all she wants?

Keaton Nash has never questioned his steady path.

His brothers may tease him about settling into his father’s passed-down role of small town veterinarian, but Keaton has never minded his rural roots. And after tragedy struck two years ago, he has a duty as the eldest Nash man to look after his family.

What he doesn’t need is the sexy, flighty stranger who shows up in town and gets his broken heart beating again. Presley McDaniel is a distraction, a red-headed temptation that is the definition of a bad idea.

He’s barely recovered from the love who left him to chase bigger dreams, and this woman is bound to do the same.

Except for the first time ever, he wants to abandon stability.

She makes him want to be reckless.

3 – 3.5 sweet and sexy Stars.

Presley McDaniels is the middle child, the one that blends into the background and because of that she has been living her life from moment to moment but she realises that it is slowly becoming unsatisfying. To give herself a break from New York and to re-orientate she goes to Fawn Hill to help her Gran out with her book and postal shop as her health is slowly declining.

Presley as a character is nice there is nothing that wowed me about her unfortunately and to be honest I didn’t quite get her issues. I felt for her at times but at others I was internally shouting as she is a grown ass woman. So act it! She is unsure about herself so it was also a journey for her to find who she wants to be.

Keaton Nash, golden boy of Fawn Hill, the town vet, the good guy, who is there for the whole community and his family who really is dull as ditch water. He lives on the straight and narrow and has always known what he has wanted to do with his life. Puke, really dude?

There is chemistry between these two although with the push and pull its presence felt more in the background and that is a shame. But I did enjoy the banter between these two but I just felt as if there was something lacking about these two.

The pace is solid and the plot is sweet and fun. This book had a lot of potential the author has created a cute and quirky town and built up a great cast here and I can’t wait to read about the brothers especially Bowen whose book is up next.

All in all a good start to a new small town romance.

Title: The Hashtag Hunt

For hashtag number five, Lauren needs a #HottieInTheWild, and with the help of her best friend, Ivy, she finds the perfect subject.

The only reason Brenner entered Barkley’s Pub was to have beers with Scott, an Army brother back in town. The reunion is interrupted when a woman is caught crouched in a dark corner, taking pictures of Brenner. Lauren explains, and though embarrassed, she accepts Scott and Brenner’s offer to help with hashtag number six.

While hunting for hashtags, Lauren finds adventure and romance with her #Hottie, but she must stay focused to beat the clock and win the cash.

4.5 # Stars.

Kristina Seek’s debut novel The Hashtag Hunt is easily in the top ten of my most favourite books for 2019 and the year is far from over. I read the blurb and I was right on board with the whole # Hunt.

12 hours to text 12 photos to the Wizard to win $10,000.

Sounds easy right? No it isn’t actually that easy but it sure hell is a lot of fun.

Lauren decided to sign up for the competition to get her baby Paperback Vinyl going so far she’s in the run for the prize money. She’s got her best bud Ivy with her and so they are rocking it. But the challenges are getting harder and harder.

While taking a break at Barkley’s the next challenge comes through

Challenge 5 #HottieInTheWild

And so Lauren & Ivy meet Brenner and Sully, let the fun and games begin because this was a riot in more ways than one. Hashtags and pictures peeps, hashtags and pictures.

I loved everything this book the banter, the situations with the challenges, it is unique, original, bloody hilarious, heart-warming and exciting and totally an unexpected read from a, did I mention debut author. It was worth taking that risk on a NTMA.

I don’t really know how to classify this book it isn’t contemporary romance or a definite rom com but maybe somewhere in between. It is a journey of coincidence and maybe finding love in the most unlikely of places.

Sully & Ivy’s romance is more hands on and they both know what they want and that is one another. Brenner & Lauren are low key when it comes to what they are feeling but they have some really sweet moments. There is no steam but there is passion and well no sex which I am perfectly alright with.

I docked a half star because I got a HFN but what I really wanted was an Epilogue with Sully & Ivy, Brenner & Lauren, last but not least Amy & Moose. Then it would have hit the spot with no shadow of a doubt.

What I would also like to see is a book about the Wizard. Just sayin’ Ms. Seek.

Read an Excerpt from FALLEN STAR:

Tuesday they were shooting on location in Jackson Square all day. The call time was two hours before dawn, so they could wring every second of sunlight out of the day, and Grace could not stop yawning on the transport van to the location.

“Wakey, wakey,” Scott said, leaning over the back of his seat to shake a plastic tumbler filled with something thick and green and disgusting-looking in front of her face.

“Ugh,” Grace grumbled. “Get that away from me.” She couldn’t help but smile a little though, even through her sleep-deprived crankiness.

An hour later, as the first streaks of light were glimmering in the sky above the river, Scott showed up at the pop-up tent where video village had been set up, and presented Grace with a white paper bag and a tall styrofoam cup from Café du Monde.

“For me?” she asked, perking up considerably. “Did you seriously walk over there and buy me coffee?” He didn’t seem to have gotten anything for anyone else. Just her. Her brain filed this information away to obsess over and analyze later, when he wasn’t standing two feet away grinning at her.

“Café au lait,” Scott said smugly. “And beignets.”

Grace narrowed her eyes at him in suspicion. “Did you make one of the PAs do it?”

“As a matter of fact, I did it all by myself. And I had to take a picture with the employees, so I hope you appreciate it.”

“I do!” she said, beaming at him. “You’re officially my favorite person today.”

He blinked at her, his smirk fading into something else entirely. Whatever that expression on his face was, it sent Grace’s stomach tumbling into a free fall. Rather than examine it more closely, she focused her attention on the bag in her hand. Inside was a mountain of powdered sugar, and buried beneath it were three pillowy squares of fried dough. “Don’t inhale while you’re eating those,” Scott warned her.

“Not my first rodeo,” Grace told him, excavating a beignet. “Want one?”

“Noooo.” He held up his hands in a warding gesture. “I’m doing a water cut for that fight scene on Thursday.”

Right. He’d be shirtless, which meant the Abs of Glory would be on full display. Grace found herself looking forward to Thursday with a little more enthusiasm.

“Sucks for you,” she said, giving him a taunting grin as she bit into a beignet.

His eyes homed in on her mouth with laser beam focus. “That’s fine. I’ll just enjoy them vicariously by watching you eat.”

“Does this get you off?” she asked archly and took another bite.

Scott licked his lips. “Not gonna lie, it kind of does.”

Grace couldn’t help laughing at his retriever-staring-down-a-dog-treat expression, which led her to make the fatal mistake of inhaling with the beignet in front of her mouth. Coughing sugar out of her lungs, she clapped a hand over her mouth as a cloud of fine white powder billowed out in front of her.

Scott sidestepped the powdered sugar typhoon and patted her on the back, chuckling. “Told you not to inhale.”

Today I read “Fallen Star” – the second book in the Starstruck Series by Susannah Nix. Two weeks ago or so I read the first book “Rising Star” and already liked the way this author develops her stories. This time she went even further.

Fallen star is almost a cliché without being one – let’s see how do I explain this …

This book is a lesson on prejudice and pride, a lesson on strength and vulnerability – a story of how they end up in misunderstandings when people do not communicate

It should be a lecture for us to not judge people without knowing everything.

To not condemn them for past mistakes unless they are unforgivable

To give them a chance to redeem themselves if their mistakes are forgivable – especially if we have no idea what actually happened.

I actually physically hurt for Scott because the way Susannah Nix presented the story is exactly the way it happens in reality. Not that I know anything about the life of people in Hollywood but lets be honest … WE ALL HAVE BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT – and I am more than relieved that I do NOT have wear that T-shirt.

And it is only one step from real life that we know to the social media we also follow. We see things there that someone posted. Someone that might have received money for it or gained otherwise from it. The context in which it is posted might be right or it might be wrong – we are in no position to judge – yet we do it – automatically – either in quiet in our minds or out loud – but we do it.

I bet from the plot you are expecting Scott to be a bad boy – and Grace to be the “innocent victim to his charm” – and maybe I am the odd one out there but for me Scott is actually the “victim” and Grace is the perfect mirror of our society.

Taking the first line from the blurb – actually Grace SHOULD know better – because there is not only this one side to Hollywood – she should know there is also the other side – the one where appearance is everything and once you have a “name” you have it forever – in good times and in bad.

But Grace is written in a way that shows a person can also change her mind believable and the reader can forgive her too for her prejudice.

I really loved how the whole plot developed as it felt real – it never felt exaggerated in any way and I think every reader that likes the blurb will be able to step into the story and feel it.

And maybe we can learn something from it – so we think twice before coming to an opinion the next time we see something on social media.

I have to think about how to write the review to this…

I was 19 when I moved into a nursing home (this is the truth and not a joke)…. the things I saw there made me choose this book for review. Half of their huge attic was converted into a furniture storage and I remember choosing my first furniture there thinking about the persons that used to own these things and the reason they were now in that attic. They had a morgue in the basement right next door to a bowling alley – I don’t know how often I saw a coroner’s wagon drive around to the backside of the building in the dead of the night … so you would think I was prepared to read this book – right ?

Wrong …

I thought I knew what this would be about …

If you think I am not making much sense? well, you should read the book then you would be at a loss too… The thing is … There is hardly anything that I can write about the story because every sentence might give away something – especially the comparison to a certain book that lingers in my mind …. (not so much because of the story but more because of the effect it had on me) …

It is my first book by this author and now I am scared and there is only are only two other authors that scare me this way … One is Colleen Hoover and the other is Jojo Moyes … In mentioning these two I think I am saying a lot. Especially to people that read books of these two. Such an innocent Blurb …. #shaking my head no ….

I loved each and every character in this book – but I would have loved them even more if I could have changed certain things that I can not name here. The writing was well developed and the author did a great job at attempting to kill me – which is not an easy feature given the number of books I read that should have prepared me for just about anything by now.

– for now? well, for now, I will take good advice I received … I opened a bottle of wine and replaced the empty tissue box – and even though I “hate” what the author did – I kind of love it too… shortly before the author’s last words I was wondering if I should open my review with the words “Is it true”? Because everything felt like it was becoming full circle…

This is one of these books were I just don’t know how to rate it. There were times were I wanted to quit because it was annoying me but also times where I was really liking it. Basically I am on the fence.

After humans lost the war and failed miserably to be top dog the Blood Alliance was born. Where humans are no more than cattle where they are divided into factions. Where vampires and the lycans rule with terror, manipulation, indoctrination where your choices are being a slave or death. Where blood virgins are coveted, and blood day is a memorable day for all.

Characters & Chemistry

Kylan is one of the oldest vampires, he is vampire royalty but rumour has it that he is going insane as he killed his harem. He has his own region and he is known for his cruelty, sadistic and violent but he is not insane. Someone is trying to frame him.

What can I say about Kylan? I hated him at times and at other times I barely tolerated him but occasionally he did something good and I liked him kind of. We get a glimpse of his true nature and he is loyal, he treats his personnel and servants.

Rae has been at the university her whole life to train for the immortal cup and to be twelve who win immortal status. But there is a culling of all and well Rae is chosen for a harem which she despises.

Rae was strong at the beginning but somewhere along the lines she became very dependent on Kylan and I didn’t like that. She still had spirit but at times it was irritating that as a character she wasn’t what I wanted her to be.

I liked her but I don’t know she was so strong and defiant at the beginning that I missed that person at the end of the book.

There was too much sex here and I can’t believe I just said that but there was it took for me too much away from the plot. There is some sharing but that was the way of the world that the author has built. I found that to be quite disappointing.

Writing, Plot & Pace

The writing is good here and the author knows how to captivate you and write something truly unique. The author toned down on the repetitiveness here in this book which for me made it more enjoyable.

As I said the author has created a unique world. The vampire world isn’t really my thing I have always preferred shifters but this somehow worked for me. The plot of wanting the world to go back to the way it was or that all species can co-exist where humans once again have rights intrigues me very much.

The pace could have been better it ebbed too much for me and didn’t flow that well. There was a lot of push and pull and too much sex that also broke up the plot in places.

The Verdict

I really enjoy this series as it is unique. It does push me out of my comfort zone and to be honest I don’t really know why. It’s a dark and twisted world and I really enjoyed it.

Book Blurb:

He’s known as Father Anton to his teammates—the brooding, sexy captain of the NHL’s Chicago Blaze has a reputation for…not having a reputation. Just like his diet and sleep routines, celibacy is part of Anton Petrov’s on-ice mojo. Or so they say. Anton stays mum on the subject. If the world thinks he chooses to abstain from sex, so be it. Better that than the truth getting out: there is a woman he burns for, but he can never have her. She’s his teammate’s wife, after all.

Mia Marceau is finally on her own. Now that she and her husband are living apart, she’s finding the peace she was desperate for. She spends her days in classes and late nights bartending, making her own way in the world at last. After what she’s been through, as long as her husband leaves her alone, she doesn’t plan to rock the boat. He still has the power to hurt those dearest to her, and she can’t demand a divorce with such a high cost.

A chance encounter with Mia has Anton hoping for a shot he never thought he’d get. And while she’s drawn to the intense, serious hockey center, Mia’s leery about playing with fire. That’s all Anton has ever known for Mia, though—a living, burning desire that won’t be denied—no matter the cost.

Anton is the first book in a brand new hockey romance series by the lovely Ms. Rothert.

Characters & Chemistry.

Mia Marceau thought that she would be leading a different life but that isn’t the case. After finally leaving her cheating husband she has decided to go back to college but she also has to support her Grandfather who is a nursing facility. And she will do whatever it takes.

My heart broke for Mia and the lemons that she was given. Especially what she did to get her cheating husband to pay for the nursing home. I liked Mia but for me personally and domestic abuse is a serious topic be it physical or psychological abuse and no walk in the park. But there was more in Mia than the author showed us and I would have loved to have seen her full potential.

Father Anton Petrov is Chicago’s Blaze best player born in Russia he and his twin brother moved to the states to play hockey to lead a better life. He now leads that life and tries to pay that kindness back and forward basically in any way that he can. By helping where he can and looking after his Uncle Dix after he has had two strokes.

Anton has been celibate for a couple of years ever since he met Mia but he could never act on it because she was married to teammate. Anton is one of the best Hero’s that I have read about in a very long time, he is all about the heroine and would give her the moon. He is strong, patient a gentlemen and an all-round good guy.

These two had strong emotional chemistry but sexually nothing happened right till the end of the book because Mia didn’t want to be known as a cheater not like her soon to be ex-husband. They have sexually chemistry although I did skim. #sorry.

Writing, Plot & Pace.

I love the author’s writing and she truly is talented. The plot unfortunately isn’t unique but the execution is there are I did have the feels. So no complaints on my part. There is great build-up, emotions etc. but somehow it just fell flat in places. The pace is the same.

Enjoyable and a refreshing read especially as the Hero of the book was virtually celibate since he first saw our heroine. I can’t wait for the over books in the series Luca and Vic but especially Luca.

“A satisfying mystery . . . Ivy's clever foreshadowing keeps the tension high throughout this
fast-moving tale, and the romance sizzles.”
—Publishers Weekly
“A pulse-raising romantic thriller.”

I can always count on Ms. Ivy to deliver me some good, old romantic suspense.

Ellie Guthrie has moved back to Curry, Oklahoma the place she was born to open up her own law company. She is content but everyone is glad that she is there. Ellie is prickly which I like in my heroines but we didn’t get off to a good start, but she did grow on me.

Nate Marcel retired from the FBI he was too tired of living life dangerously and wanted a different pace and he got that in Curry. But his former skills are going to be put to use soon enough. I liked Nate a lot and he balanced out my slight dislike for Ellie at the beginning.

The writing is good, and the pace matched the tone of the book and there was some angst and suspense. I had an inkling of who it could be, and I was right to some extent. I can only recommend this book as it is a good and solid read.

What makes you happy?

That was the question Emery Reed asked me the day we met, and I couldn’t give him a single answer. I could have said my dog, or my books, or yoga — but I just stared.

And then, I got in his car.

It was crazy to take a road trip with a stranger, but after years of standing still, he was my one-way ticket to a new life, and I wasn’t going to miss it.

We shared the same space, the same car, the same hotel room — and still, we were strangers. One day we’d be laughing, the next, we wouldn’t speak. Emery was surrounded by impenetrable walls, but I wanted in.

Discovering his journal changed everything.

I read his thoughts, words not meant for anyone’s eyes, and the more I learned about him, the harder I fell. It turned out nothing made Emery Reed happy, and I wanted to change that.

I earned his trust by violating his privacy, and as wrong as it was, it worked — until one entry revealed a darkness I never knew existed, a timer I never knew was ticking.

Suddenly, what made me happy was saving Emery from himself. I just didn’t know if I could.

My Thoughts in three pictures ….

I read half the night – I just couldn’t bring myself to stop. On the Way to You

by Kandi Steiner is one of THOSE books… It is my first read from this author and I am 100 % sure it will not be my last. Her writing style left me speechless in the end. Yeah I intentionally write “in the end” because the book starts off so quietly and I was wondering why I choose to review this ARC …

To understand you have to know when a book is offered to me to read I check out the Blurb and then I agree or disagree. I place the book on my schedule with the due dates I get and after that there will be dozens of requests and weeks if not months until I get the book.

And then comes the tricky part. I could go back to reading the blurb to remind off the content but lately I developed the habit of intentionally NOT doing that. So when I opend the book I had literally no idea what I was about to read or what I saw in the Blurb the moment I choose it. The first pages floated over me as a gentle breeze until I read that one line “What makes you happy”. In that second I remembered … My Mind went back to a book I read long ago I can not even remember the title to be honest I am about to ask my cobloggers if they remember my ranting at that time. I have to be honest I must have read more than 1000 books since then but I still remember the answer to a similar asked question in that book that made such a big impression on me that I knew ….

I knew waiting to get an answer to that question in this book would be a road trip of its own.

Road trips are a tricky thing for me – as movies I hate them to be honest but as books they really depend on the travelers and this “lucky Penny” and her “Boy” were worth the journey that much is sure.

Especially when I realized that half of their route was one I had made myself 3 times already and will do so again next year.

I am at a loss what I should tell you about the book because I am afraid that anything might spoiler something and I am not willing to risk that. But I can tell you my feelings…

I was calm

That became interested

Turning in to curious

I smiled a lot only to

Shake my head because I could not comprehend

It made me sad

My heart got heavy while at the same time

My chest got even heavier with love

I cried

And I cried some more

I started hoping

Felt there was something looming in a distance

My heart broke

And then  …….

YOU should find out for yourself what happened after that but please have some tissues ready
