This is the second and last book in the duet. I strongly recommend that you wait until the second book is out before starting both of them. As I got accepted via Netgalley for the first one and they declined me for the second without telling me but the lovely Ms. Blakely pulled through for me and I got it with a widget.
By receiving the one later than I wanted it was hard to get back into the series again. It took a couple of pages but I got there. This picks off where the last one finished, obviously. They are still looking for the diamonds.
Steph and Jake have spent an amazing night together until the next morning and Steph has been betrayed, clever Ms. Blakely you had me fooled there for a while.
There is a moment where Steph trusts the wrong person but they work out their differences. But after real emotions are involved Jake screws things up big time but with their tryst it is hard for them to concentrate on the real issue. The diamonds. Every time they think they have a lead they hit a snag and are back to square one. Until Steph decides to call it quits as she doesn’t want to continue. Jake does though.
Let me tell you the scenes are scorching hot and they go off like fireworks when they are together.
“This, Steph. This isn’t a lie,” he said in a growl, in her ear. “I know,” she said, gasping as he drove into her. “This is the truth. The way we fit like this.” ”I know. Oh God, I know,” she said, her voice rising as he moved in her.
To the bitter end Steph saw the good in people even her stepfather who quite frankly is a horrible man and I can see how hard it would be to align him with who is now and the man he was when she was a child. But she was also so gullible and naïve at the same time. I wanted to wring her neck.
Jake did offer the best apology ever.
“Sorry I behaved like a cat.”
“I’m sorry, too. I’m so glad you’re here, and I wasn’t to try again and not be cats.”
This is a great summer read and I had a lot of fun when reading this book. I seem to not be able to savour books that I like but with books I find mediocre it feels like a life time to read them. There is suspense, twists and turns and I never guessed who the culprit was. Which is surprising for me. Like me you’ll be guessing who dunnit, trust me you won’t be able to help yourself.
