Must Love Wieners is the first book in Casey Griffin’s Rescue Dog Romance series!

First and foremost I got to say that I saw this book on Netgalley and one clicked it because of the title, yes I know I can be very immature at the best of the times but how cool is the title Must love Wieners?

Piper Summers is an interesting lady. She is studying to become a vet and has three jobs to help with paying her bills. A telegram singer, a taxi driver and a pizza delivery gal. Her one man in her life is her Dachshund Collin. Amongst her many jobs and her studying and practicum as a vet she also volunteers at the Dachshund Rescue Centre.

Piper is a free spirit, strong, resilient and I love her as a character. The one thing I didn’t like that came out of her mouth the whole time was the word ‘fine’ Yes it did my nut in. Fine, fine, fine, fine oh and did I mention fine. But she is also a very proud person whereas there is a time and a place for everything having false pride doesn’t help but I must say that her character develops in that respect.

Her last telegram didn’t go so well as that she gave the bloke a lap dance although that isn’t part of the show.

Aidan Caldwell is the CEO of his own company he has an embarrassing encounter with a telegram cowgirl but still can’t get her out of his head so he runs after her and hops into her taxi and so the banter begins.

In that moment when they meet and talk out in front of the building she loses two of her jobs, the taxi gets stolen and well her day couldn’t get any worse. That is until Aidan comes to pick up his rescue dog and meets Piper being dry humped by Toby the German Shephard.

Aidan is a big shot CEO and well I had the urge to take the stick out of his arse. He changes throughout the book. He is interested in Piper but he doesn’t know how to show it. There were times where I found Aidan adorable like a little lost puppy but there were other times where I wasn’t impressed with his behaviour. He will do anything to get to see more of Piper.

“Will you be my dog walker?” Piper stared into those eyes and felt herself get sucked right in. She wasn’t sure that she could say no even if she could afford to. She nodded. “I will take great care of your Wiener.”

They have the banter and they have the chemistry.

As Aidan is slightly socially awkward he has a way with dealing with that.

“If you’re ever feeling caught off guard or have lost control over a situation you can’t go wrong with a good, firm handshake. It’s like a reflex now. A nervous twitch.”

After his wild days. He doesn’t mix business and pleasure but for Piper he makes an exception there is some miscommunication in this book for naught really. But still funny as hell to read. Every. Single. Moment. Of. It. But there is a seriousness to the story as well.

Yes the book is hilarious with Piper and her costumes for her job. But the rescue centre is in danger. And there is such a love of animals in the book. It was touching, engaging as well as exciting and kept me on the age of my seat. There is suspense and for the life of me I couldn’t predict who the culprit was in the end but it all made sense.

This is where I agreed with Aidan.

“I’m fine,” she said, emphasis on the word “fine” He laughed, a little crazed she thought. “You’re not fine. Stop saying you’re fine. A single word has never irritated me so much in my life.” Mine either there mate Aidan. Mine either. A dreaded word like nice.

Ms. Griffin did a fantastic job in the dog/owner/human interaction. I’ve tried to persuade my husband to get a Dachs but he’s said no to that idea. Collin & Sophie are the real little gems of this story. I’m sucker for romances with animals and with children involved it always makes a story sweeter.

“I’ve needed you in my life for longer than I ever knew. To have someone that when you’re together, makes the weight of the world feel like a feather,”

“But I don’t want you to be just fine.” He squeezed her hands. “I want you to be amazing.”

What I would have liked to have seen? Maybe a reconciliation with her brother unless he turns up in the next books.

I can’t wait for Addison’s book who is a romantic at heart who believes in Pretty Woman & the Notebook. I like Pretty Woman but I detest the Notebook really not for me it is on par with Titanic and we all know what happened there. Yes the ship sunk! Sorry mini rant is over.
