Fate has kicked my ass from day one.

My name is Teagan Langford and I grew up in the system. Just another child neglect case, crossing a cluttered desk. For a small window of time, I thought fate had taken mercy on me when the future District Attorney swept me off my feet. From the outside looking in, we have the perfect life together. The reality however, is my personal nightmare.

One violent night, fate forces me to make a choice and I must run to survive. With no money, food or place to live, I search for work where cash is king and questions won’t be asked.

Once again, fate drops me in the hands of a handsome bartender who wants to help me. But everyone has secrets. Ones that have the potential to destroy everything.

A fugitive on the run, one determined stalker, an undercover agent and a high profile family with a lot to lose. Suddenly, I find myself fighting for life, love and freedom.

“This is my moment. I am no longer that scared little girl, the forgotten teen, or the naïve young woman desperate for love. I am a fighter.”

Paige typically spends her days surviving on copious amounts of coffee and fantasizing about the day she becomes a full-time writer. Because even Batman needs a day job, her morning hours are spent buying drugs (the legal kind), as a pharmacy purchasing coordinator for a growing health system. When she isn’t buying drugs, she’s dreaming up hot alphas and the strong women that test them.

Paige lives in eastern Oklahoma with her husband, daughter and two furry body pillows known as “dogs”.

Fun Fact: She is the pickiest eater you will ever meet and a firm believer that the real food groups are coffee, wine and Mexican food.

Well this made for an interesting read. Before I started this book, I attempted to read three other books, but they just weren’t working for me. As an avid reader not finding anything to read is a nightmare.
Whereas I managed to finish this book I have a lot of mixed emotions which I don’t know what to do with.

3.5 “Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum. If you want peace prepare for war.” Stars

The Characters & Chemistry.

Teagan the heroine of the book I felt for her and I liked her yet there is something although she was changing it felt like she went from one extreme to the next. Teagan keeps on saying that she will learn from her mistakes but, she doesn’t. It is one thing after another where She is 29 years old and seems to NOT learn from her mistakes.

Declan the Hero of the book is a tortured soul with a heart of gold although he needs to turn that unnecessary anger down if you ask me. He is an alpha of a Hero and adds a lot to the book IMO. He has a tough past as well and got to say it was somewhat unexpected.

There is chemistry, and this is me I skimmed the sex scenes not because they are badly written I’m just not in the mood for it but the book isn’t oversexed.

The Writing, Pace & Plot.

The writing is solid and flows relatively well. There were times where I felt like banging my head against the wall because of some sentences written to convey a certain situation or emotion weren’t timed well and just a tad silly. Here an example.

It takes me a few seconds to stop walking lie a newborn deer.

Or

These men are going to war. And I’m Helen of Troy.

Seriously I was in stiches.

The pace is decent and there is never a boring moment. So, enough action to keep me and my attention span of a gnat happy.

Teagan Langford fell in love with the wrong man a very long time ago. That man doesn’t exist anymore but his connections and influence reach far and wide. So, she runs for her life.

Tallahassee is 6 hours away from Miami not far if you are on the run from your abusive husband. Just saying. If it was me I would go all the way to the west coast but with limited funds Miami it is then.

Declan is undercover and while finding information out about the cartel that they want to take down he meets Teagan and he is smitten.

And this is where it for me goes into the territory of it all fit too well together.

Now how exactly did Mark find her? That needs to be tied up. He only says that he did find her but not how.

The Verdict.

This is a strong and solid start to a debut series by this author. I had a lot of fun with it and it was a good read. Although there were some things that left me somewhat perplex and not intended I’m sure on the author’s part. I can only recommend it. I’m seeing Celeste & Briggs getting a book.
