Valerie Dunaway is a former socialite who has hidden from the public’s eyes for years due to a horrific attack that left her scarred—physically and emotionally.

When a strange masked man makes himself at home with her, she’s unable to run, so she calls the cops. But the agoraphobiac won’t go into protective custody, so Detective Hollerman calls the only people he trusts with his last case: Pierce Securities.

Quinten Pierce is a Renaissance man—artist, lawyer, fighter—but his latest assignment has him losing his ever-present control. He’s got one fight left in his career, and can’t wait for it to be over, but when his opponent seems to have ties to Valerie, he can’t let go until he finds out exactly who he’s working with.

With the help of the Pierce team, the scarred princess and the rough and tumble street fighter must silence the murmurs of the past that threaten their future.

I guess this series of standalones does not really work well as standalones. While the story of each novel might be standing alone – the characters are so involved with each other that the writing style of the author does not really allow reading the books in any other order than from 1 to the end … I made the mistake to start in the middle and therefore my reading “pleasure” is not that great. No mistakes please the writing itself is intriguing and fresh yet do yourself a favor and start from book 1 …. When I find the time I will do that myself as I really love “damaged” characters and it seems there is a ton of those in this series 🙂
