Distraction by Aurora Rose Reynolds

BOOK SUMMARY

Distraction: The great intensity, novelty, or attractiveness of something other than the object of attention.

Sven is a man who takes pride in his ability to separate himself from
his emotions. He’s a man who knows who he is and where he’s going in
life, a man who needs no one, because needing someone, anyone, is a
weakness.

His past taught him love isn’t enough.

Maggie wants the happily ever after, but has never picked the right men,
or stuck around long enough, to build a forever. It’s always been
easier to get out early, before emotions make things messy.

When Maggie wakes up naked in Sven’s bed, with no memory of the night
before, these two must be honest about their feelings and face their
fears, so they can build a future together.

Will love be enough for them to get their happy ending together, or will
a threat from outside strike them down before they ever have a chance?

I’ve
been waiting a really long time for this book. Ever since Assumption
was released I wanted Sven’s book. So when I was asked if I wanted to
read this book in exchange for a honest review. I was a happy bunny.

I
have always appreciated and loved Ms. Reynolds books, writing and
humour, up until the last two books I read of a series that shall not be
named where it came to the point where I told myself that

Getting to
my review

“Perfect is
unattainable and an unrealistic expectation. No one is perfect, and if you
think they are, you will be let down and when you see they are flawed, just
like everyone else.”

But when
reading Distraction it was the kind of book that I was ready to read and was in
the mood for. I have to say though that I don’t get why Ms. Reynolds states the
meaning of the titles in the form of dictionary terms. The end of the prologue
got me hooked.

“Nine-one-one,
what’s your emergency?” Clutching the knife to my chest, my voice chokes as I
whisper, “My mom just killed my dad.”

The blurb
didn’t really give a lot away so I was doubly intrigued with the plot and story
and the characters. I’d say a good solid 3.5 Stars for this book.

I thought
that this would be the typical manwhore/virgin trope and well it wasn’t.  Score one in favour for this book. Sven the H
wasn’t such an arse as he thought that he would be and as soon as he spotted
the h he was a goner. It is pretty clear well to me anyway what Sven is feeling
for Maggie.

With Sven’s
history I get his manwhore ways and I probably would have been the same.

Maggie,
what can I say about Maggie, well she is a strong character not stick thin, and
a woman that feels good in her body and with herself.

“I love my
body and have accepted it for what it is. I have a pooch, hips and an ass. When
I was young, I would get teased, but now I have the body of a woman and I’m
okay with who I am.”

Confident,
funny and sassy. The things she comes out with are great. But her sassiness
dwindles when she gets together with Sven which I’m disappointed about. I’m all
for the bossy but Maggie should have stayed just the way she was.

But that
moment when they meet and that moment when you can feel that they can have and
how they are together.

“Alcohol
isn’t good for you,” she informs me as I take a seat behind my desk. “Do I look
like I give a fuck about that?” I ask her, taking another swig. “You might not
care what it can do to your body right now, but you may want to know that it
lowers sperm count and stamina in the long run.” “Jesus” I shake my head and
rub my eyes in aggravation.

The only
reason Mags turned up at the club was because of her sister, Morgan. She is a
drug addict with a serious problem and pulls Mags into some of her mess. But
family is family and you can’t make that person choose. So shame on you Sven.
You fucked up!

When Mags
loses her V card it wasn’t what I expected at all. She was roofied and no not
by Sven and although she wants to wait that night she sleeps with Sven but
can’t remember one fucking thing about it. She wakes up in a panic but it is
cleared about twenty four hours later. Sven knocked me off my socks and all.

“No, Mags.
I’ve given you time. I’ve done everything but write it in the sky, and you
still do not understand I’m in love with you. I loved you before I even
understood the pain that you caused in my chest.”

Amazeballs
right? And because he has never had a relationship it gets better.

“I’m at a
loss, baby. For the first time in my life, I feel lost on what to do. I love
you, but if this isn’t what you want, I need you to just leave, because I don’t
have the strength to do it anymore.

Thanks to
me pal, Val. I CANNOT read a honey anymore so that kind of ruined it for me as
well. I believe that it can only be considered to be a term of endearment for
older people, hun I can take, but honey. Nuh, not good.

I found the
pissing contest with Sven and Zack unnecessary in who was going to take down
Lane. I mean really who gives a fuck? Secondary character he dies either way.
You feel me?

Two other
issues.  We’ll face that bridge when we
come to it, no love, which is not the phrase it is we’ll cross, yes cross that
bridge when we come to it.

Instead of
Kai, Kia was written.
Looking Forward to Justin and Aubrey.
