I’m so excited to share with you a new release coming from one of my favorite authors! Dianne’s Duvall’s Phantom Embrace will be available at eBook retailers everywhere on June 28th! This is an exciting and captivating novella set in the world of the Immortal Guardians and I can’t wait for you to read it!

Phantom Embrace
(Immortal Guardians #5.5)
by Dianne Duvall
ebook, 112 pages
ISBN 1420143530
Across dimensions . . .

Born with the ability to see spirits, immortal Yuri Sokolov avoids making contact with them, because such has always yielded negative results…until lovely Cat Seddon begins haunting his home and his dreams. As a new threat rises against the Immortal Guardians, Yuri disregards all the rules so he can be with Cat, even though the consequences are substantial.

For centuries, Catherine Seddon has been alone. When her brother is forced to join the Immortal Guardians’ ranks, she haunts the primary home of the powerful warriors to keep an eye on him, and soon finds herself captivated by Yuri. The handsome Russian immortal swiftly banishes her loneliness as friendship grows between them and deepens into love.  But can two people who are unable to touch find a future together?

Previously published in On The Hunt

I read PHANTOM EMBRACE while it was still a part of the “On the Hunt” Anthology. I
am not the big Anthology reader, so when I pick up one like just then
“On the Hunt” with stories from Alexandra Ivy, Rebecca Zanetti, Dianne
Duvall and Hannah Jayne, I need to have a real good reason for it. But this
Anthology intrigued my because it contains 3 authors I really like, it
was just Hannah Jayne that is new to my.
But
the real reason to pick it up was that it contained “PHANTOM EMBRACE”
by Dianne Duvall. Because I love those immortal guardians so much I will
not comment on the other stories. Except that they were all as good as
can be expected in an Anthology, which means those stories are normally
short and the author has to have real skill to transfer his message to
the reader, and those authors did their homework for sure.
Which brings me on direct route to Dianne Duvall. She did it again … and I mean that with a big FAT > !
First
let me say one thing. You need to read the Immortal Guardians in the
right order of their release to get the full joy. I is possible to read
them as standalone, but you would never be able to grasp the full
development that is going one besides the couples in the spotlight of
each book – SO – DON’T do it.
Devoted
Readers know what happened in the last book of the guardians and will
wonder now, how it happened that it is Yuri getting a story on his own,
due to certain aspects of the last book. I was wondering to and had
“certain” feelings about that too. But Ms. Duvall blew my mind.
I
refuse to tell specifics, because after all that this author already
did to me I thought there would be nothing new left, but I was sooo
wrong. So I believe that the reader should find out on his own what this
story has in store. Just trust me – that she took something bad and
managed to turn it not to something perfect – no, because there is
nothing perfect about this situation, but she turned it to something
more bearable. And she did that in a way no reader could have expected
when reading the last novel before this one.
She
started writing a vampire novel when she wrote the first book, but it
is so much more than that and with this small novel she added another
mark to her collection, another “specimen” to this wonderful collection
of “Beings” she already created.
Her
style is so silent that you hardly notice how her novels develop from a
simple vampire novel to so much more. It is only after 6 Books and some
short novels that, looking back, you suddenly realize where you are
right now and where you came from and it is an amazing journey.
I
truly hope – that this series will continue for a loooooong time
because given this authors writing style there is potential for so many
more stories in there.

Favorite Quotes from Phantom Embrace

Thank
you for joining me at Jeri’s Book Attic! I’m happy to be here,
celebrating the release of my Immortal Guardians novella PHANTOM
EMBRACE. (If you’re new to the series, don’t worry. The novels and
novellas can all be read as stand alones. You’ll just know more about
the secondary characters if you read them in order.) Today I thought I
would give you a glimpse of what you’ll find between the pages of
PHANTOM EMBRACE by sharing some of my favorite quotes from it. 🙂

1

He looked at Marcus and found him scrutinizing him a little too carefully. “What?”

“Are you insane?”

“No. Why? What’s the word on the street?”

—  Yuri and Marcus —

2

The amber glow in his eyes intensified. “I love old-fashioned underwear,” he hissed.

She bit her lip. “You don’t prefer the tiny panties and bras women today wear?”

He
shook his head. “If you knew how many times, as a boy, I tried to
catch a glimpse of underwear like this beneath frothy skirts, you’d know
that this is what turns me on.”

She smiled, imagining it.

— Yuri and Cat —

3

Yuri offered him his hand.

Stanislav clasped his arm instead and pulled Yuri into a hug, clapping him on the back.

Yuri grunted as pain flashed across his features.

When
Stanislav released him and stepped back, he arched a brow, lips
twitching. “That’s for scaring the sh** out of me earlier.”

Yuri huffed a laugh, then grabbed his side again with a grunt. “Don’t make me laugh, damn it. It hurts.”

— Yuri and Stanislav (his best friend) —

4

“If
I had to choose between a woman who shared my love, but whom I couldn’t
touch, and a woman I could touch, but who meant little to me . . . I’d
choose the woman I loved every time.”

— Marcus —

5

“I’m not going to tell Seth about this.”

“I appreciate that. He would hand me my own ass if you did.”

— Stanislav and Yuri —
