About the Author:

I am an Irish-Canadian Young Adult author who was
born in Winnipeg, Canada (yes, it really does exist). I love my
city and love even more that it’s become Hollywood’s running joke (Don’t
believe me? Just check out Youtube
).

I have always been a writer, from poems in my Grade 6 diary (Ode to Hobbits),
to short stories in the back of my math’s book. I have always loved to create
stories and find myself constantly creating new characters.

I am a dedicated Fangirl of many proportions and I have a knack for getting
expressions all wrong and saying incredibly stupid, but often hilarious things
(My graduation gift from my friends was a book of my own quotes).

I am a proud alumna of St. Mary’s Academy, an all-girls Catholic prep school
and I studied Theatre and Film at the University of Winnipeg. Currently, I am
still hanging out in Winnipeg.

3.5 ‘Finn’ Stars
Finn
has turned sixteen and strange things have started to happen. Time moves
faster or stands still. She dreams of familiar yet not people. A
strange boy named Eamon shows up. Finn’s mother goes missing and they
are both on the run. I always like Irish folk/myths and legends.
I
really enjoyed the back story of the five Kingdoms in Ireland that once
were and the five families from the royal bloodline that had magic.
Finn
doesn’t know who and what she is and she learns to harness her powers.
She is stronger than the sons of the other for families because she
comes from two magical bloodlines and everyone wants to use her but no
one wants to trust her because of her father Cormac.
So
if you hadn’t guessed already then this is Young Adult not usually for
me but I liked some of the twists and turns and to be honest Finn
doesn’t really use her brain otherwise she could have figured some
things out for herself. Now there was a point where I nearly gave up and
this is because Finn and Eamon were so childish with one another. I
mean come on you are teenagers not in Kindergarten.
It
is really important to mention that this book has a cliffhanger that it
is not a standalone and how many books will be in the series.

Character
Profiles.

Name: Finn Adams
Age: 16
Height: 5’ 7’’
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Blue
From: Port Moyle, California
Born: Broadhaven, Maine
Character status: Main character
Dream Casting (Above): Gabriella Wilde
General overview:  Finn Adams is a Junior at Greyfell Academy in
Port Moyle, CA. She’s just an average girl and an okay student who has a
tendency to trip over her own lanky limbs. She’s perfectly fine being unnoticed
though. When challenged, she has an attitude that is borderline frightening
which the new kid in school, Eamon, finds out a little too quickly. When her
affinity for Witchcraft is revealed Finn takes a shining to learning her
powers, but she doesn’t like all the strings that come attached.
Interests: Finn’s interests are mostly
related to movies and books, and trying to stay afloat in High school. She has
a keen mind for history and foreign languages which ends up suiting her well in
Awakening.
Important related characters: Her Mom;
Catherine Adams. Her Best friend; Tyler Adler. New Kid; Eamon Abbot (O’Neill).
Her Biological Father; Cormac McLoughlin. The Coven; Neely O’Brien, Declan
Cavanaugh, Caine O’Connor, Eamon O’Neill.
Mood towards witchcraft:  So far she’s not the biggest fan. It is
because of her inherent power that all the trouble has started in her life. If
she had to choose between having her power and having her normal life back? She
would probably choose her normal life.
Mood towards Eamon: Mixed. She had this
general frustration with him that keeps her on guard and she cannot bring
herself to fully trust him. He has his own moments where she thinks maybe they’re
making progress in their friendship, but just as quickly he turns cold.
Changes: Throughout the book Finn not only
discovers a new life but a new name as well. Finn Adams finds out she’s really
Fionnuala McLoughlin and not so average after all. Her relationship with Eamon
has its’ ups and downs from indifference, to friends, to enemies and back
again. She goes from the lanky girl who trips over her own limbs to a
well-trained fighter who knows how to use her body to her advantage.

Name: Eamon O’Neill (Abbot)

Age: 17
Height: 6’ 0’’
Hair: Raven
Eyes: Green
From: Broadhaven, Maine

Character status: Supporting Character
Dream Casting (Above ):
Brant Daugherty
General overview:  Eamon O’Neill is the third youngest Coven
member. He is sent to observe and protect Finn before everything goes awry and
he ends up having to get her out of Port Moyle. He is stubborn and does not
accept blame so easily. His behavior is entirely dependent on his mood, he is
sarcastic, blunt and sometimes just plain rude. He takes his mission very
seriously but isn’t entirely pleased with his assignment.
Interests:
Eamon is a Coven soldier so he typically does what he’s told, when he’s
told to do it. His vices however mostly include reading, the occasional video
game and longs walks by the water, really.
He likes to dance, just not usually in public.
Important related characters: His Father;
Patrick O’Neill. His Mother; Miriam O’Neill (deceased) His Best Friend; Neely
O’Brien.
Mood towards his mission: Confusion. He
doesn’t really understand why he was chosen. Out of all the coven members, he
thinks he is the least qualified because he’s not the greatest with people. His
only asset is the fact that he is always prepared for the worst case scenario.
Mood towards Finn: Frustration. That
probably sums up his feelings as a whole. Not only is she obnoxiously stubborn
and reckless, she’s also powerful. He is torn between whether or not to embrace
her, or to fear her like his father has warned him he should.
Changes: Eamon’s changes are never
definite. His mood can switch at the drop of a hat and ruin practically any
moment. Even when he tries his hardest to be genuine he tends to muck it up
just as quickly. His character develops as he allows himself to vary from what
he’s been told and allows himself to form his own judgments.
